Friends of Cory Update
Happy Friday! Congratulations to the entire community for helping Cory Elementary become a National Blue Ribbon School. What an amazing honor-due in part to participation in fundraising efforts like Friends of Cory that ensure the school has money to support the teachers, technology and programming needed to maintain Cory’s tradition of excellence. It is so wonderful that our kids attend one of the best schools in the United States.
Another piece of exciting news is that Friends of Cory has reached $34,000 with 91 families participating. This means we have reached half of our fundraising goal of $65,000. To celebrate, there will be popsicles on the playground today after school.
We still have two weeks left, $31,000 more to raise and 149 more households to participate in order to reach our $65,000 goal with 100% family participation. We can do this! We are one of the best schools in the country!

National Walk to School Day with Miles & the Mayor!
THIS Wednesday, October 5th is the 20th Anniversary of National Walk to School Day and we are celebrating in a BIG way at Cory Elementary. Mayor Michael B. Hancock has chosen our school to attend on this exciting morning – he is going to participate in a quick physical activity with Mr. Conklin and we are also lucky enough to have him say a few words to our Cory Community! In addition, Miles the Bronco mascot will be in attendance and will participate in our event – so this is a great opportunity for our kids to wear any Bronco gear they have! Please note that we are going to start at 8:30am on the playground! So leave a little early and try to walk, bike or scoot to school by 8:30am…if your child is already at school that morning, they will be brought out to the playground to participate.
Walk to School Day is a reminder of how important it is to walk, bike or scoot to/from school if possible. Making an effort to do this gets your child up to 15min of physical activity before school as well as decreases traffic & pedestrian accidents around our school. At Cory we are trying to highlight our continued safety issues for our families who do choose to walk to school and we hope that the Mayor’s presence will move us even closer to our goals.
We need some help!! Luckily, it is a short event and requires very little commitment – and there are also some options to donate a snack or have your child help with a poster! Please see the link below if you can help us and thank you so very much for all your support of the health and safety of our wonderful children!
