Yearly School Information
Pick-up/Drop-off Procedures
Cory school hours are from 8:10 am – 3:15 pm. All students should be dropped off or walk to the blacktop/ playground in the morning. The blacktop and playground are supervised from 8:05 am – 8:10 am. The first morning bell rings at 8:10 a.m. (tardy bell at 8:15am). Students will line up with their class at this time. Teachers will come out to pick up their students on the blacktop and bring them in to start the day. Teachers will also walk students out for dismissal. If a student is tardy, please come to the office to get a pass and sign the student into the school.
Alternative Dismissal Arrangements
It is important that students stay in school until 3:15pm. Please remember that at the end of the day, teachers are wrapping up the day by passing out homework and preparing students for dismissal.
Alternative transportation arrangements or a student leaving early must be made prior to 2:45pm.
EARLY PICK-UPS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AFTER 2:45 P.M. DAILY!
Please note that we will stop opening the doors daily at 2:45 so our teachers and students have uninterrupted time during their end of day routine. Please make plans to pick up your child before 2:45 p.m. if you need them early for an appointment or any other reason. No exceptions allowed.
Otherwise they must wait until the 3:15pm daily dismissal.
Parking Lot Procedures
- Please do not park in the handicap spots unless you have a handicap pass.
- Please do not use the small parking lot for pick up or drop off of any students.
- Please do not park in the Reserved family spots at any time even after school lets out as families can be picking up students later and have purchased those spots for anytime!
- Please do not stop in the middle of the parking lot to drop off kids.

How We Communicate
Communication is key to ensuring there is a strong home-school connection. We will do our very best to ensure that we are communicating with you and would expect that, in return, you take the time to utilize our website as often as possible. Below are the ways our school communicates with families:
- Friday Folders: Every Friday a folder will go home with any classroom specific information and some school information (extra advertising for school events, etc)
- Email/ThrillShare: We utilize ThrillShare for email communication. Parent Posts go out on Friday afternoons.
- Google Calendar: This will be our most up-to-date calendar with school events and information during the school year. It can be found on the Cory home page or on the Cory mobile app.
- Facebook: Be sure to “Like” our Facebook Page
- Instagram: Be sure to like and follow our instagram https://www.instagram.com/cory_elementary_pta/

Submitting Attendance Online
Did you know you can save time by letting us know that your student or students are going to be arriving late, leaving early, or absent. You are able to use your computer or smartphone to let your school know about absences. Guardians of DPS students must have an active DPS Parent Portal account to use this new feature. Visit myportal.dpsk12.org to sign up, or to check that your account is active and ready.
From myportal.dpsk12.org you will need to maneuver to Infinite Campus. From the landing page, click on See All Apps in the upper left hand side of your screen Now click on Infinite Campus or IC. Navigate to Absence Requests within Infinite Campus. You are now in Infinite Campus Portal. On the right side of your screen, click on Absence Requests under Shortcuts.
Safety and Security
What This Means for You:
- Student Number: Please be prepared to provide your child’s student number upon arrival or dismissal. This will assist us in streamlining the check-in and check-out process. You will be checking your student in or out on our the new computer system
- Visitor Check-In Process: Upon entering the school, visitors will be asked to provide their name, the reason for their visit, and check in at the main office. This new protocol will help us monitor who is entering our building and ensure that all visitors have legitimate reasons for being on campus.
- ID Requirement: When visiting the school, we kindly ask that all families bring a government-issued ID. This is to help us verify identity and maintain a secure environment for our students. You will be entering your information into the DPS system in the school when you are working or in the building from now on. This process takes a few minutes so give yourself plenty of time.
- We have an easier way for visitors to check in and check out. You can download the application and verify their identity ahead of time, allowing them to not need to sign in with their state issued ID.
- The QR code resets often (creating a level of security) and is for the individual visitor. The visitor will scan the QR code at the main office and bypass the steps in verifying their identity. Once signed in, they will select their destination, their badge will print and they are good to go. This process would not take over current main office procedures, the main office staff should still verify the badge picture matches the visitor.
