Parent Post – September 22, 2107

Dear Cory Families,
As Fall begins we are really settling into our school year. Kids have been engaged in all kinds of interesting and engaging Expeditionary Learning units exploring big ideas in such areas as civil rights, access to education around the world, the amazing ecosystems around the planet and the intricacies and links between the systems in the human body to name just a few.

In technology news, we are now have over 120 chrome books that can be used in the classrooms! The PTA generously funded one full cart of Chrome books, costing over $7,000. The other Chrome books were purchased using school technology funds. These chrome books can be used for all kinds of special projects to support and extend classroom learning in new and creative ways.

And, in student news, we have a newly elected Student Council! The council will begin working together to support the school and the community this coming month. We can’t wait to see the projects the council develops.

Finally, unfortunately due to the weather forecast, we will be rescheduling the Cory Carnival for October 8th from 12-3.  Please mark your calendars for the new date.  We hope to see you all there.

Have a wonderful and restful weekend and enjoy the cooling temperatures.

Regards,

Elizabeth TenCate

Cory Carnival Rescheduled

The weather forecast for this Sunday is calling for 80% chance of rain all day and thunderstorms.  To keep our favorite fall event safe and enjoyable, the PTA has decided to reschedule the Cory Carnival to Sunday, October 8, noon to 3 p.m.

Those who have purchased wristbands can find them in their child’s Friday Folder this week.  Please keep them until 10/8!  If you can now no longer attend and would like a refund, please email Haven Smith at havencsmith@gmail.com.

Due to the rescheduled date, we are extending the $10 wristband sales to Friday, September 29.  You can turn your payment and form into the Cory front office until 3:30 p.m. that day.  Wristband sales at entry will remain $15 each.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you on October 8th!

Calling all 5th Grade Cory Families: Help us Stuff the teacher lounge with treats on Tuesday October 3rd.

5th grade Cory Cougars let’s show our teachers how much we love and appreciate them. Please bring your favorite snacks and drinks to “stuff” the teacher lounge on Tuesday October 3rd.  We would like to have fun and healthy treats that might include: individual bags of chips, bananas and oranges, chocolate bars, pumpkin or home made breads, boxes of k-cups, nuts, frozen dinners, boxes of microwave popcorn, six pack of sodas and sparkling waters, granola bars or any other treat you can dream up.  Some of our staff is gluten free, so including free items as well is very much appreciated.

Kiddos should bring their treat to the table by the couches inside before school.  They may also write a note.  Note cards will be available before school to send a message of gratitude to our Cory team.

Come on Cory Cougars let’s show our LOVE!

Friends of Cory Annual Giving Campaign 2017-18

“Friends of Cory” is our annual giving campaign and our second largest annual fundraising effort.
This year’s campaign is kicking off September 22nd and will run to October 27th.
Our goal is to raise $65,000 with 100% student family participation.

Did You Know…

Paraprofessional educators are funded by the PTA?
Paraprofessionals provide teaching assistance in the classrooms lowering student-teacher ratio and providing valuable teaching differentiation.

The PTA pays for Full-time Music, Art, and PE teachers – the district funds part-time only?

School events and enrichment programs are all funded by the PTA?
This includes field trips, the Cory Garden, learning and community nights.

Technology upgrades are made possible by PTA funding?
Items such as the iMacs in the tech lab, Chromebook Carts, bottle filler water fountains, promethean boards, online learning subscriptions, and the new auditorium AV system were all funded by the PTA.

One of the PTA’s most important responsibilities is to raise funds to support Cory academics and programming. The school district budget covers only basic operating costs, teacher salaries and benefits. In order to achieve the learning outcomes we’ve come to expect at Cory, our PTA raises an average of $200,000 annually – approximately $550 per student – to help fund essential staff, programs and resources.

Participate today on the Cory website! Every dollar counts and benefits your child. Past donations have ranged from $10 to $10,000. Please give as generously as your budget will allow. The best way to grow the potential of our children is to invest in their education! Friends of Cory operates with no overhead, so every dollar donated goes directly into programs that support all Cory students.
