Dear Cory Community,
It has been wonderful to start getting into different classrooms and seeing all of the great learning happening across our school. This past Wednesday we celebrated Colorado Proud Day here at Cory. Our kids enjoyed delicious fresh vegetables from our school garden, prepared several ways by a professional chef, including beet chips and an Asian salad. The dishes were delicious! Please remember to stop by our school farmer’s market, each Friday, after school to enjoy produce from the Cory garden.
In other school work, our staff came together this week to talk about personal success factors and how to align our school behavioral expectations in shared spaces (cafeteria, playground, hallways, water filling stations etc.) to these factors. The common language around student expectations, aligned to personal attitudes and behaviors continues to build our positive culture for students.
We are also launching a way to recognize and celebrate students for demonstrating the Personal Success Factors around school. If your child comes home with a paw sticker- ask you child how he/she earned it and look for their name on the board outside the office.
I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for several important upcoming events:
Picture Day Tuesday 9/18 (order forms in Friday Folders)

Cory Debate Club Opportunity
A new club is forming at Cory, called “Debate Club” for 4th/5th graders and will be meeting on Tuesdays during lunch/recess. Students will be learning the fundamentals of debate competition and be taking part at first in inter-school debates but may later extend to inter district debates if other schools show interest in this idea. The club proposal was submitted by some Cory students and will be under the guidance and direction of Grace Hopley, Cory Gifted and Talented Resource Specialist. If your child would like to take part in this opportunity, please send an email to Grace Hopley with your child’s name, grade (4th or 5th), and Room #, at this address: grace_hopley@dpsk12.org. The first meeting will be Tuesday, November 19 during lunch recess. The office will need to know the roster for this club so that students may be excused to the room (to be determined) after they eat lunch.
Looking for safe and reliable childcare?
Nanno is a new on-demand childcare app launching here in Denver to help parents find last-minute childcare by connecting them with available caregivers with whom they share a connection – whether through a friend, colleague, fellow parent, school, etc. The network is invitation-only, and Nanno has invited all Cory parents and teachers to join the Cory “hub” on the Nanno network. When a member of the Cory network books or accepts a job through Nanno, Nanno will donate 10% of its revenue for that job back to Cory. If you’re interested in trying Nanno, click on this unique invitation link: http://www.nanno.com/invitations/Cory-parents.
