Hello Cory Parents,
I hope you all have had a chance to sign up for a Fall conference with your child’s teacher. These conferences are a wonderful way for our staff to learn more about your child from you. These conferences also offer an opportunity for you to learn about how your child is doing in class, areas of strength for your child as well as areas of growth. It was wonderful to see so many of you here on Thursday evening. We look forward to another great turn out next Thursday. I would also like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the parents who brought dinner treats for the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed everything- the food was truly delicious and quite gourmet! Thank you!
I also wanted to take this opportunity to update you on some exciting news. Cory will be receiving district funding, from the last bond passed, to support what is called the Innovative Classrooms Initiative. These funds are targeted for schools built before 2006 who need upgrades on student furniture, minor structural changes, paint and other aesthetic improvements that create more appealing learning environments and spaces for our kids. The money is allocated based on a $10,000 for every 50 students formula. Cory will be receiving $80,000 towards improving our spaces here at school. We will be working with the staff, the district and the CSC to collect input on suggested improvements to our learning environment. Just to address these questions up front–things that cannot be funded through this project are- a new gymnasium and air conditioning (both are far too expensive for this budget). Stay tuned throughout the year to hear more about the improvements to the Cory learning environment.
Lastly, please remember next week is a short week. Students have school Monday–Wednesday. Staff will be here on Thursday and Friday without students. For our professional learning time together we will have two focus areas: 1) We will be working through our Understanding by Design process- planning out our next module of instruction. 2) Our staff is also launching two book studies: with our 4/5 math team and K-3 teachers we will be reading Visible Learning for Mathematics by John Hattie, Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey and the 4/5 literacy teachers will be reading Opening Minds; Using Language to Change Lives by Peter H. Johnson. We look forward to learning and growing in our teaching practice together.
Finally, as always, have a wonderful weekend with your families!
Best,

This Just In
The third grade Read-A-Thon was a wild success! The third graders were able to raise over $1,091.00 for International Hope Builders. These funds will support purchasing over 91 uniforms for students in Honduras. Many students in Honduras are unable to attend school because they do not have a uniform. Your contributions have made a difference in the lives of 91 students! Thank you third graders and thank you to the community for supporting this important work!
Friends of Cory Annual Giving Campaign 2017-18
As of Wednesday, 88 families have contributed to the Friends of Cory Campaign for a total of $34,680.71.
That is amazing progress, which gets us just a little over half way to our goal of $65,000.
Imagine what we could with 100% of our 360 families participating!
Cory needs us! Remember, if we do not reach our goal of $65,000, that means we cannot fund paraprofessionals and full time schedules for the specials teachers next year. Don’t delay! With the campaign ending October 27th, time is running out.
If you haven’t made your contribution yet, remember you can do so online on the Cory website or via a form in the office. Donations can be made as a one-time payment or spread out over regular recurring payments over the course of the school year.

Hello Enrichment Families
Our Fall session is in full swing, the colors are changing, and the temperature is dropping fast. Winter is right around the corner and that means it is time to start spreading the word about our next batch of awesome afterschool classes! Winter classes will start on Monday, November 27th and go for 10 weeks through Friday, February 16th. With classes continuing through Winter Break, hopefully it will be easy for students to pick back up right where they left off in December. Fall session was our biggest session yet, and in the interest of finalizing everyone’s schedules before we go on Thanksgiving Break, we have decided to move registration forward a week. That means Registration for our Winter Enrichment Session will open Monday, October 23rd at 9:00 a.m. and will run until Wednesday, November 8th at 9:00 p.m. You should already have received a flyer outlining the schedule for Winter. Our line-up is mostly the same in order to accommodate families that want to stick with their favorite class, but we also have a number of different classes available each day for those that would like to switch things up. Our outdoor classes like Skateboarding and Park our will not resume until Spring. If our offerings don’t quite fit what you’re looking for, please feel free to reach out with suggestions and I will do what I can to find a class that fits your needs for Spring. Lastly, I made an editing mistake on the flyers you received; KidStage will be doing The Wizard of Oz for our Winter Session, NOT repeating Hercules. My apologies for the confusion. Here is our 2017-2018 Cory.C3 Enrichment Brochure for an updated list of Winterclasses and relevant information.
Thank you for your support of Cory & C3 Enrichments.

CONNECTING PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Leveraging your existing networks, we connect you with a pool of available caregivers, all of whom are trusted by someone you trust. Then we find the one who can get there fastest, and we make it happen.
Nanno is an invitation-only network. Whether you’re a parent or a caregiver, an invite is required. Any existing user can send you an invite – and we’re happy to help you find a connection in your existing network that can send you one. Once you’ve accepted your invitation, check out Your Trust Network. There you can see who you are already connected to and add new connections. Tell us as much (or as little) as you’d like about your kids and family, to make sure your caregivers know what they need to know to take excellent care of your kids. When you book a job, a beacon goes out via text message to all the caregivers in your network who fit the parameters you set. The first caregiver to accept the job will call within a few minutes to let you know they’re on their way.
The PTA Is Still In Need Of 3 Critical Volunteers
We are looking for one additional Board Member to be the VP of Fundraising. This position will be a great opportunity to work from home. It will entail emailing and following up with active PTA chairs and also reach out to organizations interested in partnering with us in fundraising. If you are working and wondering how you can help behind the scenes for Cory, this could be the opportunity for you!
We are also looking for Co-Chairs for the School Auction in April. This is a very organized position that has been laid out detailed by previous chairs. We have venue locations and potential auctioneers ready to confirm! We just need 2 lovely individuals to organize. Please reach out to the PTA if you are interested in supporting this critical event. lantzglennie@gmail.com
