ARENT POST – NOVEMBER 10, 2017

Dear Parents,

Recently there has been an outbreak at a couple of schools for the flu and norovirus. In case your child shows any symptoms during the week, please have your child recover at home.

When can my child return to school?
Your child should be fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to school without the usage of medications. In addition, they should be at least 48 hours free from diarrhea and /or vomiting.

What is Norovirus?
The norovirus is highly contagious and is generally transmitted from person to person or through airborne particles. The virus can spread through the air and contaminate surfaces. The spread of the virus can be hard to control because it’s contagious before symptoms appear. In other words, you can spread the infection before you know you’re sick. So any signs or symptoms of this please keep your child at home till symptoms are clearly gone.

Symptoms include low fever, abdominal cramps, chills, muscle aches, diarrhea, vomiting / nausea and headache. The illness usually lasts 1 to 2 days, but can be longer as weeks.

What is Influenza?
Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms: fever* or feeling feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, headaches and fatigue.

What I can do to stay healthy?
Students, staff and families should continue to practice these health tips from the Centers for Disease Control:
·  Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
·  Wash your hands often with soap and water.
·  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
·  Avoid or limit contact with sick people
·  Get vaccinated for the flu!
·  Clean suspected or contaminated surfaces with germs
Thank you for your attention to this. We hope you stay healthy throughout this season!

Sincerely,

THANK YOU to Cory Grounds Clean Up Day Volunteers!

A heartfelt thanks to the many Cory students and their families who turned out on Sunday morning to rake leaves, spread mulch and tend to our school garden!  From the trees lining S. Steele, to the far southwest corner of the athletic field, to the trees along the blacktop, and finally to the vast front lawn, enthusiastic volunteers filled over 100 bags of leaves, some of which were recycled right into our garden, and others which volunteers hauled to the Denver LeafDrop program – thank you all!  A special thanks to Cory’s Grounds team who coordinated equipment and logistics, and to Cherry Creek Ace Hardware at Florida and S. Holly for donating 50 paper leaf bags.  Our school looks amazing thanks to all of you!
