Hello Cory Community,
The SLT (School Leadership Team), with significant input from staff, reviews of multiple visioning and other surveys completed last year, together with the CSC (Collaborative School Committee), has been working to draft a vision and mission for our school. The idea was to capture as much of what makes Cory unique as well as what the ideal Cory looks like in educational practices, values and community. This process has challenged us to continue to think about how we design our learning experiences for students, our staff professional development, our hiring practices as well as our leadership search, to the ideas and outcomes in our vision and mission statements. We are very excited to have a vision that captures Cory and sets a roadmap forward for what we hope to achieve and inspire in all of our students.
Cory Vision:
As an integrated HGT/GT magnet and neighborhood school, Cory engages every student in challenging and meaningful learning experiences. We build authentic and lasting relationships within our school community. We inspire students to be globally aware, inquisitive and compassionate individuals. We bring life to learning and learning to life.
Cory Mission (How will we achieve the vision?):
As an integrated HGT/GT magnet and neighborhood school, Cory engages every student in challenging and meaningful learning experiences.
· Through:
· Differentiated instruction that drives academic growth and sparks the curiosity of every child.
· Explorations of the world around us.
· Opportunities for creative expression using technology and the visual and performing arts.
· A focus on a healthy mind and body
We build authentic and lasting relationships within the school community.
· Through:
· A focus on social-emotional learning and mindfulness practices.
· Celebrating each other’s differences and accomplishments.
· Respectful, caring, and responsible actions.
We inspire students to be globally aware, inquisitive, and compassionate individuals.
We bring life to learning and learning to life.
We are excited to have this driving vision to anchor our work here at Cory.
This month, we have several events that tie to our mission—
We inspire students to be globally aware, inquisitive, and compassionate individuals.
Through: Authentic connections to the community, country, and world and through service learning and social action projects.
Please join us for arts night, Tuesday February 6th from 5:30-7:30 (pizza provided until we run out J) where we will be creating art projects that benefit several non-profits including creating toys for an animal shelter, sculptures for kids, valentines for seniors and kindness rocks for the community. We are also in throes of Jump Rope for Heart to benefit the American Heart Association and our Student Council is also hosting a “Pennies for Patients” change drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students who donate can wear their pajamas on February 9th. We hope to see you at Art Night and encourage your participation in both Jump Rope for Heart and Pennies for Patients.
And of course, we could not let the Olympics go unnoticed! February 8th students are encouraged to wear Red, White and Blue in honor of the start of the Olympics and the kick off to our Olympic Reading Challenge!
Thank you for all you do to support the community at Cory.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Best,
Liz TenCate
