MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hello Cory Families,

Week Two is under our belts and we are so grateful for the feedback and emails in order to keep us moving in the right direction. We appreciate the partnership and support as we continue to navigate remote learning. I am so excited about the PTA sponsored event to support our students reading a text together.  One Book One Cory is a wonderful event to bring our community together.

We need your voice! We are looking for new CSC membership.  Please don’t miss out on this opportunity to support Cory’s Mission/Vision.  The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is a DPS-mandated board consisting of the principal, elected parent representatives, teachers, support staff and community members. The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is a DPS-mandated board consisting of the principal, elected parent representatives, teachers, support staff and community members.  Throughout the year, the CSC provides guidance and recommendations to improve academic performance; as well as advice on achieving the goals of Cory’s strategic plans, budget and staffing priorities, increasing parent engagement, and enhancing school culture.

This is a great opportunity to become further involved in Cory as a parent. If you are interested in becoming a parent representative, please send an email to Joan Wieser,  joan_wieser@dpsk12.org.   Families have until mid-September to make a final enrollment decision for their students, whether they prefer a virtual program or as much in-person learning as health conditions permit. In the next few weeks, we will share information on COVID-19 risks and the health guidelines we will be using, as well as a more specific deadline for families to make their final enrollment decision for the first semester. As a reminder, families can select their preferred option on the Parent Portal or by contacting their school.

Please join Ms. Wieser and Ms. Bourgeois for a weekly town hall. We will address your questions and concerns as best we can during this zoom meeting.  Town halls will be on Mondays from 6:00-6:30  pm. There will be NO town hall on 9/7. We will begin 9/14.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Best,

Joan Wieser

One Book One Cory

We are so excited to announce Cory’s One Book, One School event this year!  What is a “One Book, One School” event you ask?  Well, it is a chance for the entire school community (teachers, staff, families, and students) to all read the same book.  The event promotes a sense of community, and fosters a love for reading.  It also helps us find common ground and stirs rich discussion.  We are going to read Wishtree by Katherine Applegate.  Yay!  It is a wonderful book.

Since we are currently learning remotely, we will hold 2 pick-up days for families to get the book.  Each family will be given one copy of Wishtree, which is theirs to keep (our PTA very generously helped us purchase the books)!  Our school community will start reading the book on Monday, September 14th, and the event will last for 4 weeks.  Below is the schedule for picking up Wishtree in Cory’s parking lot:

Wednesday, September 9th:

  • 4:00 – 5:00 pm families with the last name beginning A – L
  • 5:00 – 6:00 pm families with the last name beginning M – Z

    Thursday, September 10th:
  • 4:00 – 5:00 pm families with the last name beginning M – Z
  • 5:00 – 6:00 pm families with the last name beginning A – L

Please stay in your car for the pick-up time.  Also, please wear a mask and enter the parking lot from the west end.  We will hand you the book as you drive through. If you need to arrange a different pick-up time, please Dawn Miller at dawn_miller@dpsk12.org. We look forward to seeing you next week!

NEWS FROM FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES
On September 1, 2020, Food and Nutrition Services received approval from the USDA to provide breakfast and lunch meals to any person, 18 years and under, until December 31, 2020.  This is a significant change from last week when we were only able to provide meals to DPS students.  The updated changes are summarized below:

  • We can serve free meals to all children, 18 years and younger, through the end of the year.
  • Parents and guardians can pick up meals for their children at any school or bus delivery location, Monday – Friday, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Attached here is the September lunch menu.  The menu items are served at all (86) distribution sites and (16) bus meal locations.
