Dear Cory Community,
As a school we are always balancing social-emotional, academic and the health and safety of students and staff. These three areas are our pillars to success. I know many of you are sitting with many questions about health and safety. Please know that both the health and safety of our students and staff are at the forefront of all the decisions that we make. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
We have had a wonderful 2 weeks back at school. Today students engaged in our First Friday Assembly (virtually). The focus was on on how to have a growth mindset to overcome obstacles and challenges because we learn so much about ourselves when challenges occur. We discussed how a growth mindset is a catalyst to our Personal Success Factors so we can continually grow and change as individuals.
I wanted to share the student work that is showcased throughout the hallways! We can’t wait to welcome families back into the building.
Best,
Joan Wieser

Thank you so much for your understanding and patience as we continue to navigate through another year of COVID-19. Our protocols have changes and we have heard your concerns. When we receive a positive case within our school building we will send out a notification to the community along with a grade specific letter. If there is a need for your child to quarantine you will be contacted individually. Thank you for your partnership

Hello 3rd/4th/5th Grade Parents!
My name is Rachel Wilberg and I am the school psychologist intern at Cory Elementary this year. I am so excited to announce that we will be hosting a Girls on the Run team this Fall at Cory! Myself along with a few Cory parents will be coaching Girls on the Run starting the week of September 13th and ending the week of November 15th. Our practices will meet outside on the playground (weather permitting), twice a week on Wednesdays after school from ~3:20 – 4:20 PM and Fridays before school from ~7:15 – 8:15 AM. All 3rd-5th grade girls are invited to join, and please remind your daughter, they do not have to be a runner to be a part of the team! Registration will open this week but spots fill up so please sign up as soon as possible. If interested, please sign your daughter up using this link: https://girlsontherunrockies.org/our-program/registration/. If you have any questions, feel free to reach me at rachel_wilberg@dpsk12.org. I look forward to building a team of confident and compassionate young girls!
Smiles,
Ms. Wilberg

For more information on what Girls on the Run is all about, please read below.
Over a period of 10-12 weeks, girls in the 3rd through 5th grade participate in an after/before-school program like no other. Designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength, the Girls on the Run curriculum inspires girls to define their lives on their own terms. Throughout the season, the girls make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique.
The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them. Then, we look at the importance of teamwork and healthy relationships. And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world.
Physical activity is woven into our program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health. At the end of each session, the girls participate in a 5K run. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Completing the 5K gives the girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment, as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS possible.
