REMINDER – THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We had another fantastic week at Cory! I want to celebrate our wonderful students.  I have been so impressed with the level of ownership and advocacy I see from our cougars.  Our goal is that every child feels loved and appreciated for all the gifts they bring each day to Cory.

Traffic Concerns:
I need the community’s partnership to ensure that dismissal and arrival is safe for our students and families.  We have seen an increase of unsafe driving, families not using the crosswalk, and students running in between cars at the Kiss and Go.

Kiss and Go Expectations:

  • Please arrive at 8:05 for arrival
  • Please arrive at 3:20 for dismissal – please be mindful that C3 dismisses 5 minutes before we do. It takes the students at least 3-5 minutes to walk to Kiss and Go so please be mindful of the time you arrive for dismissal.
  • Please remain in your car and continue to move forward so there are no gaps in the kiss and go line.
  • Please use the crosswalk when crossing Iowa.
  • Please do not have students run in between cars to meet you on the other side of the kiss and go.

Parking Lot:

We are also seeing a lack of patience and aggressive driving in the parking lot.  We need to partner together to ensure that our students are safe entering and exiting the school.

  • Please use the parking lot if you are going to park and walk your student to school.
  • Please do not use this location to drop off your student if you are not parking- this creates a back-up on Florida.
  • Please be mindful when backing up to watch for children and adults.
  • Please do not drive around cars in the parking lot that are waiting to park.
  • Please be mindful of speed and aggressive driving- I understand the parking lot is a frustration point for many families, but we must remain composed and aware of driving safe.

I appreciate the families who have reached out with suggestions to improve these areas.  In the coming weeks, we will have some changes to these locations because the safety of our students and families are very important.  I am asking that we partner together to ensure everyone stays safe.   I have requested for DPD to be present during these times to support with safer driving and street crossing habits.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. Wieser if you have suggestions or concerns.

Lick Challenges- Tik Tok

If you haven’t already checked, please ask your child about Lick Challenges. Unfortunately, students on TikTok are stealing, destroying and then posting items they are doing to the school. As a school, we will ask our students not to do anything that impacts the educational environment in their school. Please talk with them and support a safe environment at Cory.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Best,
Joan Wieser

CORY NEEDS SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS!

Currently, there is a shortage of substitute teachers in the district. Parents who are interested in becoming substitute teachers can apply for a one-year substitute license to support Cory. Requirements include having a Bachelor’s degree and paying a $90 licensing fee, which Cory is looking into having waived for parents. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to Joan Weiser.

NATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

National Walk to School Day is back!  Please join us on the Cory playground beginning at 8am on Wednesday October 6th for a celebration.  If you are able to walk to school or even able to park a block away and walk to Cory, it is highly encouraged that day!  We will have music and a few other special guests to celebrate this fun day.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  FRIENDS OF CORY BOOTH

Cory PTA’s annual giving campaign, Friends of Cory, provides foundational support to Cory Elementary, and it has an ambitious goal of raising $70,000 and achieving 100% parent participation this year. To help raise awareness about the campaign, the Friends of Cory Committee is hosting an informational booth at the Cory Carnival on 10/3. If you are a veteran Cory family that is interested in volunteering at this booth and talking to families about the campaign, please email Travis Wanger or Savannah Graham.
