Parent Post 8/18/2023

Dear Cory Community,

Thank you to all the families who attend Back to School Night.  It was so wonderful to see everyone and celebrate a kick off to a great year.  We are getting so excited for a fantastic beginning of the school year! Cory staff and teachers are already working hard to set the stage for a fun year of rigorous instruction, project based learning, creative problem solving and lots of learning! We are working hard to capitalize on the strengths we gained from this past year to ensure that all students receive challenging instruction in joyful, supportive, welcoming classrooms.

We would like to invite parents to continue to partner with us in the education of your children. We know you do this daily through conversations about school, reading with your students and helping your students with homework. We hope that you also get each family involved. Please remember that all parents/community members must enter the building through the front doors and check-in at the office.

With the temperatures soaring to almost a 100 degrees next week, we will be monitoring and determining if a heat day will occur next week.  We will notify parents 24 hours before a half day is called for extreme heat.  My hope is to notify parents sooner, but want to ensure we are using current and real time temperatures to make this decision.  This is not an easy decision that the district makes to call a heat day so we ask families for grace and patience as we determine what is best for students and staff when extreme heat occurs.

We are excited for the year ahead!

Every school within the Denver Public School District has a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) in place. The CSC brings together staff, parents, students, and community members to create and implement a plan to promote high achievement within the school. .Being a part of the CSC is an exciting opportunity to be involved in our school community, not to mention to participate in the education of all our students. Our school is working towards some great goals and we believe that by working together, we can achieve them!

We currently have two openings on our CSC for the 2022-23 school year. We meet every 3rd Thursday each month at 4:00 PM. We ask that CSC members participate in the meetings and commit to being a member for two years. If you are interested in your name being placed on the ballot for one of the parent representative openings, please fill out the nomination form. If you would like more information concerning the CSC before making a decision, please feel free to contact Joan Wieser, Principal. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. We encourage you to participate in this great work.

Choice and Enrollment Once a family is enrolled — or accepted — into a DPS school, the next step is registering with their school. This is the annual process of providing and updating student and family information on file, including emergency contacts, health information and more.

Please make sure you have registered your children for the upcoming school year!

Registration can be done online, or through the school in the fall. We recommend registering online because it’s convenient and saves time. Families can register online for the 2023-24 school year. Please finish registering your children for Cory. This is part of the process that needs to be completed by you. Enrollment is NOW OPEN –  July 29 through August 22, 2023.To register online, sign in to Parent Portal, click on “See All Apps,” then click on “Online Registration” to verify or update your student’s information. Online registration can only be completed by the parent/guardian listed in the primary household of the student record.

If you don’t have a Parent Portal account, please contact your school directly for registration information.https://myportal.dpsk12.org
