Cory Families,

Happy Friday! I would like to send a huge shout out to the PTA for sponsoring the Mural Crawl Field trip.  Many thanks to the attending teachers and parent chaperones who supported this wonderful opportunity for our students.  We can’t wait to see the murals our students will create next year! I know students were inspired by the art work!

What a year this year has been! Thanks for all you have done. We encountered many successes as well as challenges and each new turn made us stronger and ready for an even more fantastic 21/22 school year. We hope you are able to enjoy your summer, relax and rejuvenate. Thank you for all that you did and continue to do to support the vision of Cory and continue to assist in our success.

We wanted to provide you with a few updates on staffing for next year:

Dawn Miller will be retiring this year.  We have been so thankful for  her investing in our programing and supporting students.  We will miss her so much!
Please join us in welcoming Mathew Davis! He will be our new Library/Tech/STEAM teacher for next school year.
Mrs. Javernick will be on maternity leave durning the 1st semester. Michelle Shamis will be her long term sub for that time.  We are so excited for Mrs. Shamis to be a part of our Cory Crew!

As always, please reach out with any questions and join me in congratulating these staff members to Cory!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Cory Families!

Chicken Coop News

The hens are laying like crazy with the warm weather.  Soon, we will be able to remove the plexiglass windows so they can get lots of fresh air.  Everyone is enjoying the new stone landscaping.  Your students love coming to the coop each day.  Look at the happiness on their faces!  And the chickens are just as happy too!Cory Garden News

Last week was Earth Week, and boy did our students contribute to the efforts of sustainability and caring for our earth.

The classrooms were very busy readying the raised beds for planting. Prepping the beds requires pulling all weeds, layering with compost, and turning the soil once the compost has been placed.

Here is what the students have done these past two weeks:

  • 280 students have spent time in the garden the past two weeks
  • Weeding 17 raised beds
  • Hauling 10 yards of compost (1 cubic yard weighs 1250 lbs.)
  • Planting over 330 flower bulbs (Peonies, tulips, Dahlias, Gladiolus, Lilies, and Irises)
  • Planting beets, sweet peas, carrots, and radishes

As Denver Urban Garden says: “gardens are places of experimentation and joy, requiring no advanced degrees or training for their human participants….”

2022-23 School Year Registration for Discovery Link Is Open!

Discovery Link is the only DPS-run before and after school licensed child care program that offers families flexibility with drop-off and pick-up times while providing students an extension of the school day and their learning. Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning (SEAL) is infused throughout the program’s entirety to ensure all students, families and staff have a comfortable and supportive environment.

Discovery Link is offered at 47 DPS schools. At most sites, programs serve children K to 5th grade enrolled in Denver Public Schools. Select sites are child care center programs and serve children ECE to 5th grade. Additionally, select sites serve up to 8th grade (DMLK).

If your child attends one of these schools, they are eligible to join Discovery Link for fun, high-quality, before and afterschool programming. However, capacity is limited and space is filling rapidly, so register today! Discovery Link has a rolling registration process. As sites reach licensed capacity, families will be added to a waitlist and contacted when spots become available. Direct any questions to or call 720-423-1781.

Follow link to register:

Please check the lost and found area by the gym. There are quite a few winter coats, water bottles, sweatshirts and other items. You might not need your child’s winter coat now but you will come next winter.  Everything will be donated at the end of the school year.

Dear Parents/Guardians of

Students with medication at Cory,

Thank you for supporting The Denver Public Schools medication policy.  Please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up all medications used by your child during the school year.  Colorado Guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child.  If your child is participating in a summer program, their medication will not automatically be transferred to the site of the program.  It is up to the parent/guardian to pick up the medication from the school and transport it to the summer program site.

Enclosed is the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Medication Release form for the next school year.  The DPS medication release form must be completed by both a parent/guardian and physician in order for ANY medication (including any over the counter medications) to be given next school year.

Please remember that all prescription medications must be in a labeled pharmacy container.  All over-the-counter medications must be in the original package and labeled with the student’s name and dosage information.

It has been a pleasure to work with you and your child this school year and I look forward to next year.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at   720- 424-8385.
