MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi Cory Families,

Hi Cory Families,

Thank you to all the families who came out to cheer our students on during field day and the talent show for 4th and 5th grade.  Our students  showcased sportsmanship, kindness, and teamwork throughout the day!  We have some amazing student talent in our community.

Congratulations to Trey Archer, a Cory Elementary 5th grader who received the DPS Rae Harris Curiosity Award last night during a wonderful ceremony. This award recognizes students who exhibit a high level of curiosity about anything and everything! Thanks Trey, for reminding us to follow our curiosity to new learning throughout our lives!

Hello Cory Families!

A little news from the Chicken Coop and Garden for the month of April 2022.

Chicken Coop News

The hens are laying like crazy with the warm weather.  Soon, we will be able to remove the plexiglass windows so they can get lots of fresh air.  Everyone is enjoying the new stone landscaping.  Your students love coming to the coop each day.  Look at the happiness on their faces!  And the chickens are just as happy too!  Cory Garden News

Last week was Earth Week, and boy did our students contribute to the efforts of sustainability and caring for our earth.

The classrooms were very busy readying the raised beds for planting. Prepping the beds requires pulling all weeds, layering with compost, and turning the soil once the compost has been placed.

Here is what the students have done these past two weeks:

  • 280 students have spent time in the garden the past two weeks
  • Weeding 17 raised beds
  • Hauling 10 yards of compost (1 cubic yard weighs 1250 lbs.)
  • Planting over 330 flower bulbs (Peonies, tulips, Dahlias, Gladiolus, Lilies, and Irises)
  • Planting beets, sweet peas, carrots, and radishes

As Denver Urban Garden says: “gardens are places of experimentation and joy, requiring no advanced degrees or training for their human participants….”

Dear Parents/Guardians of

Students with medication at Cory,

Thank you for supporting The Denver Public Schools medication policy.  Please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up all medications used by your child during the school year.  Colorado Guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child.  If your child is participating in a summer program, their medication will not automatically be transferred to the site of the program.  It is up to the parent/guardian to pick up the medication from the school and transport it to the summer program site.

*IF ARRANGEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE FOR MEDICATION PICK-UP, REMAINING

MEDICATIONS WILL BE DESTROYED ON:    _June 3rd at NOON_

Enclosed is the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Medication Release form for the next school year.  The DPS medication release form must be completed by both a parent/guardian and physician in order for ANY medication (including any over the counter medications) to be given next school year.

Please remember that all prescription medications must be in a labeled pharmacy container.  All over-the-counter medications must be in the original package and labeled with the student’s name and dosage information.

It has been a pleasure to work with you and your child this school year and I look forward to next year.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at   720- 424-8385.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Stevenson BSN                                                                   Cory
