MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi Cory Families,

Happy Friday! We have finished CMAS and ready to get back into our learning and projects.  There are still have many make-up tests  to complete next week.  The kids did such a wonderful job using their time, focusing, and showcasing their very best thinking.  Way to go Cory Cougars! 

Next Friday is the Cory Derby! I hope everyone can attend to have some fun, connect, and raise money for our wonderful programs and opportutnies for all our Cory students.  

Eight Cory art pieces are on display at the Denver Art Museum through April 28.  A handful of students joined Mrs. Alexander this week for a student reception. Great work, Cory artists!

Important dates coming up!!! 

  • One Campus Celebration 4/29 at 3:30pm
    Save the Date for fun right after school on Friday, April 29th.  The Cory, C3, & Merrill campus is a special community.  We are bringing back our One Campus Celebration after a 2 year break.  Please join us on the Merrill Black Top for free fun with Chuck the DJ, free popcorn, and Kona Ice.  The party starts at 3:30pm.  Walk over from Cory and walk out from Merrill and C3!  Teachers, Administration, and Staff will be given a complimentary Kona Ice in appreciation of all the love you give to our students.  Come out to dance, snack, and enjoy our community on a Friday afternoon!
  • Join us on Thursday, May 5th from 4:30 to 6:00 for our “Cinco de Mayo STEAM Night”!  There will be 1 station for each of the letters (i.e. one for science, 1 for technology, 1 for engineering, 1 for art, and 1 for math.  Our theme is related to Cinco de Mayo and our 1 Book, 1 Cory book Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring. 
  • The Science Fair is coming to Cory in April! An informational packet is included in your child’s Friday Folder this week so students can work on their projects over Spring Break. Projects are due April 18th. Please contact Jenna Javernick (jenna_verde@dpsk12.net) if you have any questions. Cory Science Fair judging will be on April 20th. Please join your child’s class on this day to view presentations. Your teacher will communicate the specific time in April.  In class presentations will take place on April 18th and 19th. The rubric (Practice Skills & Assessment) is included in your child’s packet. Please note, only students in grades 3-5 will have their projects scored by judges to be advanced to the district fair. The same rubric will be used by the school wide judges and the district fair judges. This will allow children to make modifications to projects based on teacher and judge feedback prior to the district science fair.
  • The top 3 finishers from grades 3-5 will be signed up to advance to the district Science Fair on April 30th at DU. 
  • Looking for a way to stay in shape while having some fun? The north gym at Merrill has been reserved on Thursday nights between 7 and 8pm for parents and staff of Cory, C3, and Merrill to play pickup basketball.  Please reach out to Tyson Sollenberger if you have any questions at Tysollenberger@gmail.com

Hello Cory Families!
Thank you to students for participating in the ‘Chickens for Change Drive.’ Our outstanding
students raised over $600 to support the chicken program. First place goes to the 3rd-grade
classes who raised $284.76!!
More Chicken News:
We installed the landscaping around the chicken coop. Our landscaper's Innovation Design
gave us a 10% on the installation!

Finally, the 3rd Grade Art Classes have created six chicken art paintings for the Cory Auction
later this month. Don’t forget to ask your students how the paintings were created.

It’s Yearbook Time! 

The Cory PTA is taking orders for 2021-2022 yearbooks! Orders and payment must be submitted by Friday, April 15th and yearbooks will be distributed in May. The cost is $25 per student. For families ordering more than one yearbook, additional yearbooks can be purchased for $20. Please complete this order form, then submit payment to the Cory PTA through Venmo (@CoryElementary) or PayPal (paypal.me/corypta).

Also, we are looking for candid photos of Cory kids (first day of school, carnival, field trips, etc.) from the community. Please upload photos here and include a comment with student name(s) and grade level(s).

Save the Date: Cory’s Spring Dance!

Cory students and families are invited to the annual Spring Dance on Friday, May 6 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. DJ Chuck will be spinning tunes, there will be two food trucks providing dinner, and the Kona Ice Truck will be serving dessert. Stay tuned for more details about the theme!
