The Leprechaun’s at Cory has caused quite a disturbance in classrooms!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi Cory Families,

With Spring in the air, we need to ensure that all students come to school prepared for snow and rain.  Please make sure that students are coming to school prepared for the weather because students will be going outside for recess.

The safety of our students is the most important aspect of our day. Please exercise patience when using the main parking lot.  This area is not a drop off area so please do not drop students off in this location.  Families need to park and walk students to the black top if you are using the parking lot. Again, if we can not follow the expectations, I may close the parking lot and require families to use the Kiss and Go.

I am asking families to please follow our Kiss and Go expectations to make this area safe and effective for pick-up and drop-off.

We have revised the safety guidelines at Kiss and Go because of the unsafe driving and jaywalking that is occuring.  We are requesting parents to volunteer during pick-up and drop off to support our mitigation efforts. Parents who volunteer will be provided training to support the traffic conditions at Kiss and Go.  I am also asking families to be mindful of behavior when engaging with parent volunteers and teachers at Kiss and Go.  We need to work together in a calm way to ensure the safety of all our students.

  • Monitor(s) located at tennis courts and crossing guard stationed at the Cook and Iowa crosswalk
  • Pedestrians may only cross at designated crosswalks along Iowa Ave. (Steele St., Cook St, and Monroe St)
  • Restrict left hand turns from Cook, Adams, Madison or Steele into the kiss and go lane which disrupts the safe flow of the kiss and go lane. See graphic below.
  • Vehicles may only enter the kiss and go lane by lining up after the last vehicle in the queue.  Enter from the 4 way stop at Monroe St. and Iowa Ave. This should help to eliminate jutting in and out throughout the line.

A few reminders:

  • No students can be picked up after 3:00 on a daily basis as students are transitioning  for dismissal
  • Please do not use the small staff parking lot for drop off or pick up.
  • Please use the crosswalks for crossing the street with the traffic light signals . We try and have our staff  out there to help keep you safe.
  • CMAS testing is coming up soon. Please try and limit the times during these days of testing that you pick up your students. We appreciate your help with this .  Please see CMAS schedule below for April.
  • Looking for a way to stay in shape while having some fun? The north gym at Merrill has been reserved on Thursday nights between 7 and 8pm for parents and staff of Cory, C3, and Merrill to play pickup basketball.  Please reach out to Tyson Sollenberger if you have any questions at Tysollenberger@gmail.com

Thank you to the PTA and parent volunteers for helping put together our new picnic tables. We can’t wait to use them!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Change Drive for the Chickens!

March 21st – March 25th

Hello Cory Parents!

What are you doing with all that loose change after two years of not using it?

Help support us during our Change for Chickens Coin Drive. The money we raise during the change drive will help defray the cost of caring for our lovely flock of hens.

Send your students to school with your family’s loose change from March 21 – 25th. Then, the class that raises the most money will be celebrated with a pizza party after spring break.

We are looking for new volunteers to add to our chicken volunteer list.

Student grades 1st – 5th, need to be accompanied by a trained volunteer to care for the chickens.

We are hoping to get more parents, grandparents, or other old siblings involved in our program to get each grade level into the coup daily, Monday – Friday (maximum 3 students per class).

What is involved in becoming a volunteer?

  • Short volunteer training done by one of our long-time volunteers
  • Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes in length
  • Volunteer duties – supervisor students as they:
    • Feed chickens
    • Provide fresh water
    • Collect eggs
    • Turn Hemp

If you are interested, please contact Skeeter Buck – skeeterbuck@gmail.com or text 415-845-5447.

Please come in to look for any items your children might be missing in  the lost and found area. It is overflowing with coats, mittens, water bottles and other miscellaneous items!
We could use a little help from parents to go through the lost and found area and help us get it organized.
EVERYTHING will be donated to Clothes for Kids the week after Spring break!

If a couple parents want to come in and help on Monday morning at 10:00 to organize the lost and found we would greatly appreciate it.

Cory/C3 Math Team with Pi Q Math (7 week program ONLY)

Join the Cory/C3 Math Team with Pi Q Math! Team members will meet Friday mornings to strengthen their problem solving skills and deepen their understanding of important mathematical concepts. Children who participate in at least two sessions during the school year will have the opportunity to practice for and participate in at least one math competition. The contest will be administered during the camp time and at Cory, no travel is required. Math competitions have helped thousands of kids understand that math is not about blindly following rules but about solving complex and deeply satisfying problems. They have generated excitement, energy and pride in excelling in mathematics. Your child’s success in math competitions is a very good reflection of their deep and flexible understanding of the key concepts taught in elementary school mathematics.
