Loyal Cory 3rd Graders go on a musical quest searching for their beloved teacher. Joined by the (mostly unhelpful) detectives and earth’s geological features, will Professor Rock ever be found?  Doors to Merrill open at 5:30, and the show begins at 6:00.

Tired of the same old family road trips?  Join the Cory 2nd Grade for an epic trip with our musical, Vacation on Mars.  Set out on a celestial journey and tour the whole solar system with us.  Doors to Merrill open at 5:30, and the show begins at 6:00.

Dear Cory Community,

We had a great week here at Cory! Thank you for a wonderful MLL Parent Meeting and Literacy Night!
There will be no school for students Monday, for President’s Day, and Tuesday, for a district planning day. We can’t wait to see kiddos on Wednesday!

Ms. Wieser will be back in the building from her medical leave next Thursday!

Many students still have cell phones and smart watches on them during the school day. This is against Cory policy. If students bring them to school they are required to keep them in their backpacks during the school day. If parents need to get messages to students, then please contact your child’s teacher via DoJo, or email, or call the front office and we will get your child the message.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL INFORMATION IS UPDATED IN IC. IF YOU HAVE MOVED PLEASE BRING IN A COPY OF YOUR NEW ADDRESS WITH A XCEL, WATER OR CABLE BILL TO THE FRONT OFFICE.

Round 1 SchoolChoice Window Extended to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21
The system that DPS uses to accept and process SchoolChoice applications, SchoolMint, experienced some technical issues and some families were unable to complete their SchoolChoice applications. To ensure that all families are able to submit an application for their student, the Round 1 deadline has been extended to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21.

This means that if you have not yet submitted your SchoolChoice application, you still have time to list your school preferences for the 2023-24 school year. Get started now by accessing the SchoolChoice application here. Create an account or sign in using your Parent Portal login. Then, rank your school options and submit them by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

If you are having trouble submitting an application, please contact the Office of Choice and Enrollment Services by calling 720-423-3493 (hotline operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday) or email SchoolChoice@dpsk12.org

As a reminder, although the window has been extended, Round 1 of SchoolChoice is not a first-come first-served process. There are no repercussions or benefits for families who submit an application earlier versus later during the Round 1 window.

ECE-3 and ECE-4 families still must complete their Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado application by Feb. 14, but will have until Feb. 21 to complete their SchoolChoice application. Learn more about the UPK application here.

Dear Families,

In February, we began “One Book One Cory” by reading a book called Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Maker by Zanib Mian. Thank you PTA for purchasing this book for all students and staff at Cory. This book focuses on some aspects of muslim culture, handling bullying, hate speech, and how to get through the ups and downs of life.

As we read this book together as a whole school during the month of February, we ask that you talk to your child about the book, the topics covered, and their feelings towards it. Asking them about bullying, friendship dynamics and questions they have will generate rich discussions at home as we will also be having them in class.

In addition, Mr. Davis, the school librarian, has created a website with activities and questions you and your family can do together at home during the Month of February.  https://sites.google.com/dpsk12.net/corylibrarywiki/one-book-one-cory

Whole school reading schedule….

  • Feb 22: Ch 19-23 (152 – 205)
  • Feb 27: Culminating project (windows and mirrors)

Finally, to further build excitement for literacy at Cory we will be having a family literacy night on February 16th from 4:30-6:00. There will be literacy themed stations set up in classrooms throughout the school. Your family can choose how long you stay, which activities you complete, and how many you do. We look forward to celebrating literacy with you on the 16th.

We thank you for your support,

The One Book One Cory Planning Committee

The Cory Elementary Equity Committee is excited to present the Cory Elementary Parent Equity Education Series!

Thank you to all who attended the first Parent Equity Ed night! It was wonderful to engage with you in this learning!

This series will include 3 more learning opportunities for parents in the Cory community to gather together and engage in learning around different topics that impact equity in education.
Session 2 (Building a Shared Why) – Monday, March 6, from 5:30 – 6:45 pm, in the Cory Cafeteria
Session 3 (Color Blind vs. Color Brave) – Thursday, April 13, from 5:30 – 6:45 pm, in the Cory Cafeteria
Session 4 (Summer opportunities and Equity BINGO) will be after school on Monday, May 1, from 3:20 – 3:40 pm, on the Cory blacktop

Please RSVP for session 2 by Friday, March!

You may RSVP by emailing Amber Bourgeois, at amber_bourgeois@dpsk12.net.

* Pizza will be provided for sessions 2 & 3! Please indicate if you are a vegetarian when you RSVP.

** If you need child care, it will be provided in a different room at Cory Elementary. Please indicate if you need child care and the age of the child when you RSVP.

*** Please let us know if you will need an interpreter and for what language when you RSVP.

A couple reminders:  1. School begins at 8:15. With the tardy bell ringing at 8:20
2. If a student is late they must come into the front office and get signed in taking a tardy slip with them to class.
3. We go outside every day we can. Please make sure you children have the correct clothing  coats, hats and boots if needed on cold weather days.
4. Students have a snack  during the day with their class. Please try and remember to pack a daily snack.
5. If you are picking up your student early you must come into the building to the office and sign them out. This is for their safety along with ours to insure we know where all students are all day. We prefer you are here before 3:00 to check out your students. We understand there are times when this is not possible as emergency’s happen. When you arrive to pick up your student we will call the classroom to have your child come to the front to meet you, we do not want students sitting in the office waiting for parents.
6. School is over at 3:20. If you have not picked up your students by 3:30 they will be waiting in the front office for you.
7. Sometimes the lunch menu changes in the cafeteria due to food not being delivered on time to the warehouse. We try to keep the menu consistent with what they say. Please understand Food Services is doing everything they can to provide the best meals to our students. Please feel free to call Food Services with questions or concerns. 720-423-5600.

How Sick is Too Sick?
When Children and Staff Should Stay Home from School or Child Care
Evaluation of a sick child must consider which diseases are currently circulating  among students, staff, and the community. Known exposure to cases or an outbreak  of a contagious disease (including but not limited to those listed here), even without  a confirmed diagnosis, may necessitate more stringent return to school  requirements.  During Colorado’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, children and staff  who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should receive testing, and follow the  COVID-19 isolation guidance until testing is completed or if they test positive. If the  individual tests negative for COVID-19, the individual should then follow the  recommendations for their disease or symptoms using the below guidance.  There are four main reasons to keep children and adults at home: 1. The child or staff is at risk of infecting others with COVID-19 or another contagious illness, either because of symptoms or recent close contact. 2. The child or staff member does not feel well enough to take part in usual
activities. For example, a child is overly tired, fussy or will not stop crying.  3. A child needs more care than teachers and staff can give while still caring for the other children.  4. The child or staff member has symptoms or an illness is on this list, and staying home is required.
