MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Cory Families,

I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break.  I wanted to express my gratitude to the community and the Friends of Cory committee.  Through the generosity of our community, the committee raised $50,000 to support resources, programs and opportunities for Cory students.  A huge thank you to our Friends of Cory committee: Travis Wanger, Savannah Graham, Kelly Hanson, and Mary Beth Carpenter. Thank you for all your dedication during such a difficult and challenging time.

I would also like to thank our amazing staff and students.  Students are engaging at high levels, leading group work and discussions, and providing peer/peer feedback.  I am grateful for the strategic planning of our staff to support our students in succeeding remotely.

Feedback:
We would like your feedback! A student survey will be sent out next week to get all perspectives!
Parent Survey

YouTube Block:
Teachers use YouTube to bring educational content into classrooms.  However, many families wish this to be blocked on their child’s device.  Please use this resource  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/set-online-parental-controls .

CMAS Update:
Currently CMAS is going to be administered in 2021.  I will send updates if this changes, and more communication about the assessment.

Gifts for Staff:
We have had several families asking about teacher gifts.  If you would like to leave a gift for your child’s teacher, we will be up at the school to collect and deliver them on Tuesday, 12/15, and Wednesday, 12/16, from 8am – 12pm.  You can buzz the front door and we will come grab them.

Best,

Joan Wieser

DISCOVERY LINK – REMOTE LEARNING SUPPORT CENTERS

Discovery Link families,
As COVID-19 conditions change in Denver, we are adjusting our programming to prioritize the health and safety of our students and families.DPS announced the difficult decision to shift all K-12 grades and programs to remote learning, beginning on Monday, Nov. 30 through the winter break. ECE families will receive supports for at-home instruction, but we will not be offering full remote learning for ECE students. This means that Discovery Link will not offer before and afterschool programs and shift to offering Remote Learning Support Centers for elementary school students. Registration opens today, November 19th at 6pm.

Please click here to register for Remote Learning Support Centers, which will be available at 30 locations for families who need support from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m with a capacity of 30 students per site. The majority of locations will cost $16 per day, with 8 grant-funded locations being provided free to families who attend those schools. Spots at Remote Learning Support Centers are limited, and available on a first come, first-served basis.
Families should remove days from their calendars and accounts will be credited for before and afterschool fees through Dec. 18. If you have questions, please contact discovery_link@dpsk12.org.
