MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Cory Families,

Happy Friday Cory Community! We had a wonderful week learning and engaging.  It is a joy each day to walk through classrooms and see the high level learning students have the opportunity to dive into.

At Cory, students have been leading our Monday Welcome videos.  This week first grade students in Mrs. Keldin’s class shared their research with the entire school.  It is wonderful to see students share our goals as a school, some interesting facts, strategies for social emotional health and celebrating the diverse culture of our community.

I would also like to shout out V.A. and Avery who have taken it upon themselves to pick-up trash during their recess each day.  These students want to help our environment and the animals that call Cory home.

News From Student Council
Hello there, this is your Cory Student Council! We want to tell you about the Saint Francis Center item drive! Through the 7th of December to the 14th of December, please bring in toilet paper and laundry pods. Did you ever think about what your life would be like if you had no toilet paper? Or did you think about what it would be like to not have clean clothes? That’s why we are donating toilet paper and laundry pods to the Saint Francis Center, which is an organization that helps people transition out of homelessness. Thanks for your help!

Here is some information for Cory’s Angel Tree efforts.  Please read the flyer and sign-up if your family is need of a food box.

Have a wonderful break!

The funds raised will be distributed between Cory’s 30 office staff, specials teachers, paraprofessionals, custodial and lunchroom staff, and other support staff. Please note that contributions are for staff only––they will not be distributed to homeroom teachers because they receive class and student gifts during the holidays. To contribute electronically, Venmo @CoryElementary, or there is an envelope in the main office to drop off cash or check donations (please make checks out the Cory PTA). Please make contributions by Thursday, December 9.

MRS. HANOCK’S COOKING CLUB IS BACK!

Clothes To Kids Lifts Referral Requirement
Big news!Shoppers no longer need a referral or proof of automatic qualification to shop at Clothes To Kids of Denver.

The requirement to provide a referral or proof of qualification was temporarily suspended last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This change has been so popular with those we serve that we have decided to make the suspension indefinite.
“We are looking to elevate the experience of our shoppers and add to the dignity of the Clothes To Kids shopping experience,” said Valerie Lunka, executive director of Clothes To Kids. “It is so difficult for many of the families we serve to ask for help. We hope that suspending the need for a referral makes things easier on both the families we serve and our community partners who share our information with students.”

Clothes To Kids Featured In YourHub
Just last year, Clothes To Kids launched Curbside Service, providing safe, contactless delivery to families in need while still allowing students to choose their own clothing and be just as selective as if they were shopping in person. The program has proved so popular that we are continuing to offer it, despite the reopening of our boutique for in-store shopping. Click below to read more about this wonderful program in the YourHubsection of The Denver Post:

We are accepting clothing and shoe donations on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only between 9:00 and 3:00. Take a look at our updated Donation Guidelines for details about what we accept. Please sort items by category (girls, boys, young women, young men and shoes) to save time at drop-off.

Do you have clothing sitting in your building’s storage?
Be like Joe Waldon (pictured here) and share the items with us! Joe is the social worker at Skinner Middle School and was kind enough to use part of his summer break to deliver a large amount of new clothing that was donated to his school, but had gone unused. Thank you, Joe!
