MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Update to Return to School

Dear Cory Families,

I hope everyone is well and staying safe. DPS has released the timeline for students to return in January. You can read Superintendent Susana Cordova’s Letter here. We will send more detailed information about Quarter 3 next week. I want to assure families that our goal is consistency for students.

I want to thank everyone for your continued support during this difficult time. We would like to continue to encourage everyone to stay healthy and do your part to get our community more healthy – wear masks, socially distance, wash your hands, keep your social groups very small. We all need to work together to get our students back into school in person as soon as possible. THANK YOU!

YouTube Block:
Teachers use YouTube to bring educational content into classrooms.  However, many families wish this to be blocked on their child’s device.  Please use this resource  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/set-online-parental-controls .

Gifts for Staff and Holiday Parade:
We have had several families asking about teacher gifts.  If you would like to leave a gift for your child’s teacher, we will be up at the school to collect and deliver them on Tuesday, 12/15, and Wednesday, 12/16, from 8am – 12pm.  You can buzz the front door and we will come grab them.

Please join us on Thursday, 12/17 from 3:30-4:00pm for a holiday parade!! Teachers will be outside in the main parking lot so families can drive through the parking lot and wave and wish the staff a happy holiday. We ask that everyone stay in vehicles to stay safe and healthy. We will not allow gift drop-off at this time.

Thank you for helping make this season special for teachers and staff! I cannot tell you how the entire Cory staff is so appreciative. Happy Holidays!

Best,

Joan Wieser

TUTORING – SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB

Hi Cory families! The Key Club, a service based club, at South High School, would like to offer free tutoring to any students who would like some additional support. Starting in January every Tuesday from 3-4 pm there will be a google meet where students can stop by to get some 1 on 1 assistance from a high school student in any subject. If you are interested please send an email to 731192@dpsk12.net to be added to an interest list where you will receive further information when the time approaches.

DISCOVERY LINK – REMOTE LEARNING SUPPORT CENTERS
Discovery Link families,
As COVID-19 conditions change in Denver, we are adjusting our programming to prioritize the health and safety of our students and families.DPS announced the difficult decision to shift all K-12 grades and programs to remote learning, beginning on Monday, Nov. 30 through the winter break. ECE families will receive supports for at-home instruction, but we will not be offering full remote learning for ECE students. This means that Discovery Link will not offer before and afterschool programs and shift to offering Remote Learning Support Centers for elementary school students. Registration opens today, November 19th at 6pm.

Please click here to register for Remote Learning Support Centers, which will be available at 30 locations for families who need support from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m with a capacity of 30 students per site. The majority of locations will cost $16 per day, with 8 grant-funded locations being provided free to families who attend those schools. Spots at Remote Learning Support Centers are limited, and available on a first come, first-served basis.
Families should remove days from their calendars and accounts will be credited for before and afterschool fees through Dec. 18. If you have questions, please contact discovery_link@dpsk12.org.

DPS MEAL DISTRIBUTION AND DELIVERY
Since school returned to a virtual format on November 30th, DPS Food and Nutrition Services has seen a significant decrease in families accessing free breakfast and lunch meals at DPS school sites.

You can follow DPS Food and Nutrition Services on Facebook at Denver Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services and on Instagram at dpsfoodservices for menu and information updates about school meals.
