Parent Post- 12.10.15

Principal

We are officially in the hustle and the bustle of “school life” here at Cory and are preparing for the following events:

  • PARCC Results- The day has finally arrived!  Our PARCC Scores will be released at 12 noon Friday for all 4th and 5th graders. Keep an eye on your inbox for an announcement from both myself and the district regarding these scores.  In addition, parents will be receiving their Individual Student Reports in Friday folders (TODAY-YEA!) for both PARCC (English Language Arts and Math) and CMAS Social Studies.
  • Choice Window- The Choice Window opens in January for the 2016/17 school year.  We hosted our annual “Choice Open House” last Friday and it was a huge hit!  Many interested families took the opportunity to tour our school and had the opportunity to meet with our teachers, PTA Members and CSC Members.  Special thank you to our parent volunteers for leading the tours and sticking around for questions and answers.
  • Budget- We are approaching budget season in January and February.  During this time the staff and CSC meet to prioritize needs and begin to allocate funding for the 2016/17 School Year.  We will be in contact with the community during this time to ensure transparency to the process.
  • Cory APP- Coming in January will be our first Cory APP!   This APP will be driven straight from our website and will allow instant access from your mobile device.  It will also include notifications that we can send out as reminders and/or any urgent information. Be on the look out for more information after the holidays.

Have a wonderful SNOWY weekend!

Jennifer Harris, Principal

Specials Teachers

The PTA is still taking a collection of donations to go to the Specials Teachers (Art, Music, PE, and Library and will be divided equally) as a holiday gift from the school community. If you would like to contribute to this collection, there will be a manila envelope in the front office where you can place your donation.  Whatever amount you can give is wonderful and cash or checks are accepted.  Please make checks out to “Cory PTA”.  Donations must be in by Wednesday, December 16 at 3:30 PM.  Please include a note with your name and student’s name so I know whose names to include in the card!

Thank you,
Cory PTA Board

Art Night Chair Needed

Do you love art?  Would you like to get more involved with the PTA?  If you answered yes, we have a job for you!!  We are looking for a chair or co-chairs for our annual Art Night event that will be held in February.  This evening is a favorite for students and parents alike.  Our fabulous art teacher, Ms. Alexander has agreed to help with the event, but we need a parent or two to step forward to help make this night a success.  We have a team of volunteers in place and our previous chair is happy to pass on her knowledge as well.  If you are interested, please contact us at coryelementarypta@yahoo.com.

Teacher Spotlight

This week we chatted with first grade teacher Alex Keldin.

Q. How long have you been at Cory? Share something you did before your current role.
This is my 10th year at Cory! I acted as Milo in an off-off Broadway production of The Phantom Tollbooth.

Q. What novel character do you like the most or identify with?
A novel character I identify with is Flavia de Luce from the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. I highly recommend it!

Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what food would you crave?
My food would be black beans – love them – and apples.
