Specials Teachers

The holidays are fast approaching. The PTA will be taking a collection of donations to go to the Specials Teachers (Art, Music, PE, and Library and will be divided equally) as a holiday gift from the school community. If you would like to contribute to this collection, there will be a manilla envelope in the front office where you can place your donation. Whatever amount you can give is wonderful and cash or checks are accepted. Please make checks out to “Cory PTA”. Donations must be in by Wednesday, December 16 at 3:30 PM.

News from the Art Room

Cory artists teamed up to create 200 bright and cheerful holiday cards that will be delivered to seniors home-bound or living in nursing homes through the Baskets of Joy program sponsored by The Denver Post, Volunteers of America, and Albertsons. Baskets of fruit, each featuring a charming card made by an elementary student will be delivered to thousands of seniors. Art teacher Ms. Alexander was very impressed with the drive the students had to work on this special service-learning art project.

Teacher Spotlight

This week we learn more about Brendan Doyle, our first grade teacher.

  1. Share how long have you been at Cory and one thing you did before your current role.

I’ve been at Cory for ten years this year. I started out a para in kindergarten (yes, they used to be in this building) and then spent years working as the school’s technology representative and a paraprofessional. I also did my student teaching here, and substitute taught here and there before being hired on as a teacher in 2012.

  1. What novel character do you like the most or most identify with?

My favorite character from a novel is Elphaba from the book “Wicked” by Gregory McQuire. I like her because she’s mysterious and misunderstood.

  1. If you were stranded on a desert island, what food would you crave?

I would crave cheeseburgers and pizza if I was stranded on a desert island. I crave them most days anyway.
