Dear Cory Community,

The staff at Cory set goals each year to ensure continual improvement. We have an intense focus on increasing achievement and achievement growth (MGP) for our students of color and students who receive free/reduced lunch. We have several strategies, which we believe will work to positively impact this data, which include:

  • Use culturally responsive practices to ensure differentiation, student engagement, student leadership and critical thinking;
  • Continue to provide rigorous instruction in reading and math;
  • Provide support in reading & math interventions, small group paraprofessional support;

In addition to our intentional focus on achievement, school culture and community engagement are keys to our success at Cory. We believe that all students at Cory need to enjoy learning, participate in project-based learning and engage in collaborative learning opportunities. We value all of our families and recognize that “it takes a village to raise a child.” We also value collaborative decision making between the school and the community and want to formally invite caregivers to attend our CSC meetings and PTA meetings. We encourage caregivers to volunteer in classrooms, participate in community events and join us for student celebrations of projects.

It is October, which means that we are gearing up for our fall parade. Students will get to dress up and celebrate fall! We will celebrate on 10/31 starting at 2:15. We are inviting all families to join us outside for a parade at 2:50.  Please mark your calendars and look for additional information about this fun community event!  If you wish for your child not to participate, please let your child’s teacher know as we will have alternative actives that your child can engage in.

Please join us for First/Second Grade Parent Literacy Information Night!

Dear Cory Community,
We strive to support equity for all students in our diverse Cory Community. One way of doing so this year is by offering the opportunity for equity education to our parent community. These sessions will be similar to the educational opportunities our staff has undergone.
If you would like to be involved in planning and/or participating please contact me, Amber Bourgeois, amber_bourgeois@dpsk12.org, or 720-424-8431. Our first meeting is Wednesday, October 26, at 3:45 in the Cory Library.
I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you!
In partnership, Amber Bourgeois

Volunteers Needed: Cory Works Out

Volunteers are needed to co-chair the Cory Works Out fundraising program! This role helps to plan and coordinate 2-4 workout classes with local studios that give back to the Cory PTA.  Examples of businesses we have partnered within the past include Lagree Luxe, F45, Barre Forte, and more. If interested, please reach out to Stephanie Campbell

Become a PTA Member

PTA membership is a great way to get involved in the Cory community, and members have a vote on any issues raised at monthly PTA meetings. Membership is $15 for an individual and $30 for a couple. Join today by submitting payment through PayPal or Venmo (@CoryElementary), and checks made out to “Cory Elementary PTA” can be dropped off in the front office.

Friend of Cory Campaign Committee
We are a group of parents co-chairing the Cory Elementary PTA annual fundraising campaign, and hope we can count on your support by making your gift today.
Families that participate with a tax-deductible contribution allow Cory to provide all students with:

  • Paraprofessional educators in each classroom
  • Full-time Art, P.E., and Music teachers
  • Enrichment experiences, including the school garden and chicken coop
  • Classroom technology upgrades and learning tools

Not every DPS school has the same level of parental commitment and engagement as our community, and we’re thankful to everyone who chooses to support the Friends of Cory Fundraising campaign.

This year, we have a goal of raising $55,000 and achieving 100% family participation in our effort. To help raise awareness and encourage others to participate, we’ve created unique Cory ‘thank you’ items at various gift levels:

  • $500 donation = yard sign
  • $300 donation = car magnet
  • Gift of any size = kids bracelet

Please make your tax-deductible gift today. Your donation helps make Cory the best it can be.

Sincerely,
Mary Beth Carpenter, Keren Nimmo, Scott Jahnke, Kelly LaBoon
Friends of Cory Co-Chairs

Please come and check out the Lost and Found Area! There are quite a few items in there that need to go back to their homes. We will be donating the items that are still here after Thanksgiving. IF Your Child is Missing items PLEASE come pick them up.
