Students working on building a castle at recess and following all social distancing rules!
Mask break time!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We are ready to welcome back our students into the building next week.

At Cory, we have many students who experience tree nut and peanut allergies. Now that we are heading back in person and students will be eating lunch in the classroom, we are asking families to avoid sending lunch or snacks with nuts in them. We know this is not always possible, so if you are sending nuts please let the classroom teacher know.

Halloween is right around the corner. This is always a special time at Cory. Know that we are working to find a safe way to celebrate. More details to come.  We will have a spirit week on Oct. 26th.

Please make sure you are completing the health screen for your students before they come to school. We will also do a quick check, but appreciate you taking the time to fill out a brief health survey. Here is the Safe Access Link

YouTube Update:
As a staff, we have decided not to block YouTube as it is a resource for teachers.  We will partner with families to reinforce how to use technology appropriately.

A few reminders:
We have changed the pick-up location for 5th grade.  Please refer to the map below.  We will also not have an adult for morning Kiss and Go so please discuss with your child how to walk to their grade level door after being dropped off.  We will have an adult at Kiss and Go for dismissal.

  • SCHOOL HOURS:
    • 8:45am Students may arrive in 5 minute increments between 8:45am-9:00am.
      •  8:45am, students whose last names begin with A-I will drop off

      • They will then go to their designated door and proceed directly to their classroom to meet their teacher and have a quick health check.
    • Children may not come to school prior to 8:45am and there will be no playing on the playground or on the blacktop.  1st and 2nd grade families can walk students onto the blacktop for arrival and dismissal. 3rd-5th grade families will not be allowed to drop off or pick-up on the blacktop.  Please find a location to meet your students on the field.
    • Breakfast will be provided as a grab and go.  You can find breakfast bags outside of the cafeteria door each day at 8:45am.

    • 2:45pm: Instructional Day Ends—Students pack up to go home! We will do a gradual release of students following the same protocol for arrival. Please arrange a location to pick-up your child each day to build a routine because families cannot wait on the blacktop or playground to pick-up their student.

FRIENDS OF CORY

Our annual giving campaign, Friends of Cory, is going on now! One of the many programs that Friends of Cory supports is our library and technology program.  Wasn’t it wonderful to read “The Wish Tree” as one school the last few weeks?  One Book, One School is creating a sense of community and connection, and helping students find common ground at a time when we all need it most!

Did you know that Friends of Cory funds full-time technology and library resources in addition to much of the technology itself?  2020 has been quite a year of challenge and growth and we appreciate Dawn Miller and all the Specials Teachers and Paras for becoming a dynamic resource to our school.  Their adaptability to support different subjects, grades, small groups, and staffing gaps is critical this year, and would not have been possible without your generous support to Friends of Cory.

GREETINGS FROM THE CORY LIBRARY!

As many of our students are returning to our building, now is a great time to turn in any library books that have been living in your homes!  Please search high and low for missing library books and bring them in to your classroom teacher.  Teachers will get them back to the library.  I am happy to announce that students are able to check out library books this school year!  It will definitely look a little different since the library cannot be open to groups of students.  However, students are welcome to place a hold will searching for books in our online catalog, Destiny Discover.  I will fill their holds, and then deliver the books to their classrooms.  Here are simple directions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Zom1ayaQMh2fXXFflsYJLYiREzNe27wY3AquJp7AxJ8/edit?usp=sharing
Please feel free to begin using our hold process!  Our library books have been very lonely!
