Message from the Principal
We hope this message finds you well. As we continue to work together to provide the best educational experience for our students, I want to take a moment to emphasize the critical role that regular school attendance plays in academic success and overall student development and well-being.
Attendance Supports – We understand that there are times when circumstances arise that can make it difficult for students to attend school. Whether it’s due to illness, family matters, or other challenges, we are committed to supporting our students and families. To help ensure that every student has the resources they need, we offer a variety of attendance supports, including:
Truancy Court – In cases where attendance becomes a consistent issue, it’s important to address the matter early. In DPS, habitual truancy is 4 unexcused absences in a month or 10 unexcused absences in a school year. Excessive absenteeism, without valid reasons or appropriate support, can result in the need for intervention through truancy court. Truancy court is a legal process designed to work with families to address chronic absenteeism and to ensure that students have the support they need to succeed academically. The Cory attendance team will proceed with filing truancy on an as needed basis, however, we believe that early intervention and communication can prevent the need for such measures. Our goal is always to work collaboratively with families to find solutions before attendance issues become serious concerns.
We believe that when we work together—students, families, and school staff—we can overcome challenges and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Regular and consistent attendance is essential, and we appreciate the efforts of our entire community to support our students in their academic and social-emotional journeys.
If you have specific questions or concerns regarding attendance, please contact Joan Wieser and Anna Meyer. Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Joan and Anna

Meet Finn! A National ambassador for the American Heart Association. Finn was born with a rare congenital heart defect (CHD). Hearts need four chambers to function properly, and Finn was born with a heart with zero. He has been through 18 surgeries to fix his heart and suffered one stroke in his 9 years of life.
With all thanks to schools like yours and families like you, the proper research was funded to repair Finn’s heart, and the proper advocacy was done to spot the signs of a stroke.
