Principal Update
Happy New Year, Cory Families!
I hope you all had a restful, rejuvenating break. We were very happy to see your children on Wednesday and anticipate a fun-filled next semester.
I wanted to start off this year with some FANTASTIC news. I was recently contacted by the Colorado Department of Education, who made me aware that we have been nominated to receive the US Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award. This is quite an honor, out of 132,000 schools in our nation, only 285 are recognized annually. Five have been nominated from the state of Colorado, two are Title 1 Schools and three are high-achieving schools. Cory is one of the three high-achieving schools being nominated. This award would mean we have national recognition and our team would go to Washington, DC in November to receive this prestigious award! We are being nominated based on our high achievement with all of our learners. Our interim superintendent, Susana Cordova, was also notified by the state and is THRILLED for us! I am so very proud of our school and community and thank all of you for your support. Click here for more information. We will hear in September if we will receive this award.

PTA News
First Friday Art Walk & PTA Meeting
Today (Friday) is your opportunity to walk your child to class, taking in all the beautiful art and student work as you stroll down the hall. Please join us afterwards for the first PTA meeting of 2016. We will meet in the cafeteria at 8:45am (we promise a warm cup of coffee) and will be discussing the many events scheduled for the second half of the school year. We hope to see you there!
Save-the-Date!
Book the babysitter and dust off those bell bottoms! Cory’s Annual Auction is set for Friday, April 29, 2016 at 5:30 PM and will be held at Wellshire Events Center. This year’s auction theme is “Out of This World Decades Party”. Come dressed in your favorite decades attire and be ready to have a fun filled evening as we raise money to support Cory!
Are you as excited about the auction as we are?!? Please join us at our official Auction Kick-Off Meeting next Thursday, January 14 at 6:30 PM in the Cory Elementary Cafeteria. We will be discussing the new and exciting changes being made this year, meeting the committee chairs, and recruiting new volunteers. If you would like to help out but unsure how you can, please come and listen as we prepare and get excited about this year’s event! Light refreshments will be provided.
Art Night Chair Needed
Do you love art? Would you like to get more involved with the PTA? If you answered yes, we have a job for you!! We are looking for a chair or co-chairs for our annual Art Night event that will be held in February. This evening is a favorite for students and parents alike. Our fabulous art teacher, Ms. Alexander has agreed to help with the event, but we need a parent or two to step forward to help make this night a success. We have a team of volunteers in place and our previous chair is happy to pass on her knowledge as well. If you are interested, please contact us at coryelementarypta@yahoo.com.
