Message from the Principal
Cory Caregivers,
For safety, we are asking all caregivers to buzz in and state the reason for visit. We also ask for each caregiver to provide an ID when entering Cory. Thank you so much for your cooperation!
This week, I wanted to take a moment to highlight the wonderful behaviors we have observed among our students. It has been heartwarming to see our students demonstrating kindness, integrity, and respect towards one another. Many have stepped up as up-standers, leading their peers in making positive decisions and fostering a supportive school community.
Additionally, I’d like to remind everyone that the Cory Auction is taking place next week! We hope to see all of you there to support the programs that make Cory truly special within the Denver Public Schools community. This event is a fantastic opportunity to come together, celebrate our achievements, and honor the hard work of our students and staff.
We look forward to celebrating together as there is so much to be proud of at Cory. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making our school a great place for every child.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Have a wonderful weekend!

With Leslie Bushong leading the charge—both in securing funding and spearheading the mural—this project wouldn’t have been possible without her dedication.
The Cory community truly showed up with heart, offering their love and support to bring the meaning behind the mural to life.
I had the honor of working with Traci and Brian to create a mural that beautifully honors Lincoln while capturing Cory’s vibrant and joyful spirit. The goal was to find that perfect balance—something meaningful, playful, and full of heart.
At the center of the design is a butterfly, the symbol for Dravet Syndrome, surrounded by playful rays around the word “joy” and a soft glow that radiates warmth and love—just like Cory. The color palette of purple and yellow reflects Cory’s favorite colors, while also representing the Dravet Foundation, Epilepsy awareness, and a nod to the Rockies, one of his favorite teams. In the background, the Rocky Mountains serve as a symbol of Colorado and the strength of the community around him.
A baseball nestled in the corner alongside blades of grass adds a personal touch that speaks to Lincoln’s love for sports—and to the kids at Cory Elementary. Every element of the mural was chosen with intention, with the words woven throughout representing both Cory’s legacy and the light Lincoln brought to others.
One of the most special features is the set of interactive butterfly wings, designed so that kids can step up on the bench and become part of the art. It’s not just a great photo opportunity—it also becomes a rite of passage, especially for 5th graders spreading their wings as they graduate and move on to middle school.
The most heartwarming part? Seeing the kids light up as they celebrated Lincoln and added their own sweet touches to the mural. Their energy, excitement, and participation made this tribute even more meaningful.
