Destination Imagination (DI)

Destination Imagination is a worldwide educational program in which student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at a tournament. This amazing opportunity takes problem solving and creativity and mixes it with a strong element of teamwork. DI is an extra-curricular program which includes 1st through 5th graders. Cory has been successful at DI tournaments for years, sending teams to State and Global Finals for the last five-plus years, and winning several Global competitions over the years! We want to build on our success!

DI generally begins in October with weekly team meetings and runs through March of each year, although teams that qualify for State or Global Finals can expect to continue working together through late April or May. Teams meet outside of the school day, either before school, after school, or on weekends. Students are expected to pay dues (to be determined) to cover the costs of registering for tournaments, t-shirts, and other expenses.

It’s important to know that parents manage all of Cory’s teams. We had ten teams last year, and several of those teams had been together for years. Teams are limited to seven participants, so if your child is interested in joining DI, the best way to ensure that he or she has a chance to participate is gather other parents and start a team! Co-managing is encouraged. Dues are waived for the children of managers!

Interested in finding out more about DI, or in becoming a team manager?

You are invited to a Cory DI workshop, hosted by Michelle DePrenger-Levin, Michelle Hoskins, and other superstar current and past managers who will let you know all about DI and how to successfully manage a team. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 29th, at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria.

Already managing a team?

You are welcome to come to our workshop to share your knowledge, and any tips or tricks! Also, please email our DI school coordinator, Rainy LaVenture, at rainy_laventure@dpsk12.org with the names and room numbers of the students on your team, as well as contact info for their parents. We will register your team as soon as we get your info — two teams already have their materials!

Interested in having your child participate in DI, but unable to manage a team?

Come to the workshop to network with other parents!

If you are unable to make the workshop but still interested in learning more about joining or managing a team, please contact our new DI school coordinator, Rainy LaVenture, at rainy_laventure@dpsk12.org.
