MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Cory Families,

I cannot believe that we are almost to the winter break!  Please remember to check the lost and found as there are many coats, hats, gloves, lunch boxes and other items that need to be picked up.

There is no doubt that the pick up and drop off situation here at Cory is difficult at best. It requires patience and respect for others. Please don’t make it a dangerous situation and abide by the rules and traffic laws. It is illegal to speed in a school zone and pass a bus when their lights are flashing. Let us all come together and recognize our responsibilities because our kids deserve it. As a shared campus, we are creating a sign-up for a crossing guard so please keep an eye out for that opportunity.

We are very excited to announce that all Cory students will be going on a field trip on 12/16 to attend a women’s basketball game at the University of Denver as part of their “Hoops and Education Day”. There are many DPS schools engaging in this day of learning and fun. We are excited for students to learn more about health and wellness through a presentation by DU’s Strength and Conditioning coach.  These topics support health and science standards.  Students will also learn about healthy eating, how much water to drink a day, what proteins and carbohydrates do, etc.   Another important aspect to remember is there is a college campus so close to our community and it is fantastic that students get to be inspired and motivated to be college and career ready.  We are also excited to share the message of equity through this opportunity.

This will be a walking field trip meaning that all students will walk with their teachers to DU’s Magness Arena. The distance is approximately 1.1 miles. Parents are welcome to join us and your child’s safety is our number one concern. For this reason, we are asking that 5 parents join each class for the walk over to DU. Once we get to DU, parents are welcome to stay for the game and programming as spectators. We will also need at least 5 parents for the walk back with each class.

All students will need a sack lunch as we will be eating at DU. There is no cost for this field trip and we really think that it will be an amazing way for our community to come together and to support our local and very nearby university. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have would like to accompany us on the walk over to DU and contact Mr. Conklin at brent_conklin@dpsk12.org if you have any questions about the trip.

I wanted to spotlight the student council at Cory.  Today, they lead the First Friday Assembly for all grade levels.  They did a wonderful job at leading the Mindful Minute, the Cory Creed and presenting the impact our community had with donations for the St. Francis center.

Thank you all for the support of our staff and students. We appreciate the partnership and support.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Joan WIeser
Principal

CORY ANNUAL WINTER ART WALK AND CONCERT
The December 13th Winter Art Walk and Concert are quickly approaching, and we wanted to be sure to communicate some information to make the evening go smoothly.  The art walk will begin at 6 p.m at the Cory main entrance. The objective is for families to enter through the main entrance, walk through the main corridor hallway and admire the art, and exit out the patio doors. The walking route is designed to flow as a one-way hallway lane for optimal traffic flow, and to allow for the art walk to be completed in 15 or so minutes, so that students can get to the concert, which will begin at 6:30pm. We are excited to share the students’ visual and performing art talents with the community next Friday!

Additionally, please see the signupgenius link below if you are able to help out, we are still in need of some volunteers. Thanks! Mrs. Alexander and Ms. Ferguson
