MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
We have had a great week here at Cory! Students are getting back into the groove of school and despite the heat, kids are engaged and learning in every classroom. Over the summer we had all new library furniture delivered and the library looks amazing and inviting! The older wooden tables from the library are being re-purposed in Ms. Alexander’s room as art tables. We also had a delivery of over 300 new chairs this week, replacing broken, uneven and mismatched chairs. The new chairs look amazing and brighten up our learning environments. We are also working with the district to finish up two small group work spaces at the end of the first and second hallway. There have been some challenges with construction over the summer but we hope to have the spaces finished in early October.
Our staff has been digging into planning work and we have already begun our math and literacy professional learning together. We look forward to continuing our work on backwards planning, mapping our units for effective differentiation, math thinking strategies and continuing to design learning experiences that challenge our kids.
I look forward to the year to come and getting to know the students and parents of this wonderful community. I was so excited to such a great turn out at Back to School Night. We can’t wait to form strong partnerships. Thank you for your support.
Best,
Joan Wieser
PICK-UP/DROP OFF REMINDER
School hours are 8:30am until 3:30pm. There is no adult supervision before 8:30am. If you need care in the morning before 8:30am, Discovery Link has openings for their a.m. program. In addition, pick-up time is 3:30pm. If you are unable to pick up your child by 3:30pm, please make arrangements to have your student picked up by a friend or family member. We appreciate everyone adhering to the school policy. Thank you!
PLEASE REMEMBER: NO DOGS ALLOWED
We all love our fur babies but please remember that dogs are not allowed on school property, leashed or not. It is not only a City and DPS district policy, but we have a student who is severely allergic. We kindly ask that, in consideration of the safety of our students, that you please leave dogs at home.

CORY “ARTREPRENUERS”
This past July, three Cory fifth graders represented our school at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival as “artreprenuers.” In this role, they had a budget of $500 to interview exhibiting artists and purchase art for the hallways of Cory, thanks to a grant funded through Janus Funds. These students, Sam Allison, Jack Lindwall and Barrett Walker, are pictured in this photograph along with Mrs. Alexander, art teacher, and the artwork they selected. Soon you will be able to enjoy these art pieces displayed at Cory. Thank you to these art buyers for doing such a marvelous job representing Cory. Also, thank you to Samantha Sturhahn, this year’s Parent Rep, and the mothers of the art buyers for attending the festival as chaperones. |
