DECADES DAY TOMORROW! To kick off our Auction, all students and staff are encouraged to wear something from their favorite decade! We encourage students to dress from their favorite fashion trend (bring out the bell bottoms!). Please note, face paint is not allowed. Wigs are allowed but students need to plan to take them off during the instructional part of the day if their teacher feels it is a distraction.
AUCTION OFF TO A GREAT START!
We are so excited that this year’s Mobile Bidding has officially begun! If you have purchased a ticket prior to 10 AM Wednesday, you should have received a text or email to begun bidding! If you purchased a ticket after 10 AM yesterday, you will receive a text around 10 AM today to begin bidding.

Online tickets sales will be closed on Friday and you will have to purchase your ticket at the door (there is a price increase for tickets at the door).
Hopefully you have already had a chance to preview and start bidding on the many great Silent Auction items on Mobile Bidding. Teacher Treasures, Buy-A-Shares, and Class Projects will open up for bidding Friday evening at 5:30 PM.
We have had several questions regarding how Mobile Bidding will work with the multiple packages for Teacher Treasures. It is similar to what we have had in the past, but on mobile bidding instead of paper bidding. Each spot is sold individually and there may be different price bids on each individual spot. There will be a leaderboard displaying the highest bid for each Teacher Treasure, but you can also check the top bids by scrolling through the Teacher Treasure section on your mobile device and then clicking on “My List” to review your bids and see which items you are winning and which items you have been outbid on.
And remember, there will be volunteers and staff who can help answer any questions you have during the auction Friday night.

TEACHER APPRECIATION
1) In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, please have your child bring a flower(s) & a personal note on Wednesday, May 4th.
You love your teachers, we know you do! Write a note to tell them just exactly what you love about them (parents are welcome to join the fun) and bring it in with a flowers on Wednesday, May 4th. Hand deliver your special personal note to your teacher, but leave your flowers in the buckets on the table by the couches. We have a parent with horticulture experience who is going to transform all of our flowers into wonderful individual petite mason jar bouquets to be used at the teacher luncheon the next day. Then, each teacher/staff member will get to bring one of these gorgeous mason jar creations home.
2) Help us say THANK YOU with style at a special lunch for teachers on May 5th. We only need a few more things such as soup, casseroles, and quiche. Please click here and see what you can do to help!
DESTINATION IMAGINATION
Congratulations to all the Cory students who participated in the Destination Imagination program this school year! Six teams of Cory students presented projects in the areas of fine arts, technical innovation and community service at the D.I. Regional tournament in March. Four of those teams advanced to the State competition on April 9, and three will continue on to Global Finals in Knoxville, TN later in May! Congratulations to all teams on a season of creativity and hard work!
There will be a bake sale fundraiser next Thursday, May 5th after school on the playground to help raise money for the teams headed to Tennessee to participate in Global Finals. The DI teams have more great fundraisers planned in May so stay tuned!
CORY CHORALE CONCERT
“Mark your calendars for the PREMIER concert of the Cory Chorale! A fun, vibrant choral concert featuring Cory’s 3rd-5th grade Chorale singers will take place Thursday, May 5th at 5pm in the Cory Auditorium (Doors open at 4:45pm). Please join us for this event great for all ages!”
CORY DANCE IS BACK!
Get your dancing shoes on! Friday May 6th from 5:30-7:30 pm is the Cory Dance. This years dance is a whole family affair (no drop off please). The theme will be tropical and it’s sure to be hot with our DJ extraordinaire Chuck Woodford spinning the tunes! We will have 3 food trucks in attendance: one with Hawaiian shaved ice, a New York Style hotdog cart with kids meals at just $5, kosher, vegan and gluten free options and a Sweet tart cart! Additionally, we will have water and candy available included with admission. We are asking this year for a $5 suggested donation per family to cover the dance costs. Come have fun with us Friday May 6th. Tropical dress is suggested.
CORY’S GOT TALENT!
Singing and dancing and more, oh my! Cory is chock-full of talent. Whatever that talent may be, kids can showcase that talent at the CORY TALENT SHOW, taking place on Friday, May 20th opposite of field day. TRYOUTS will be on Tuesday, May 10th after school in Room 108/109. Parents can sign their talented kids up for a three minute audition slot at http://goo.gl/6znWNO. KALEIDOSCOPE REGISTRATION IS OUT!
New families interested in registering their kids for next year’s Kaleidoscope, Cory’s stellar before and after school program, may do so before and after school in the cafeteria next week, May 2nd thru May 6th. RUN FOR A CAUSE
The Cory/C3 Happy Feet Running Club Enrichment class will be hosting a 5K for the Cory/C3 communities…The First Annual Cory/C3 “Dine ‘N Dash” will take place on the Cory/C3 field on Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 AM. This event will be a fundraiser for “Hands Up for the Children,” a local nonprofit providing nutritious food to children when they need it most. This awesome group provides kids in need with food, as close to us as Merrill and Asbury!
Registration is $15 per person, and 100% of registration fees will go toward “Hands Up for the Children.” Registrants may run or walk in the 5K event, and should dress up as their favorite food or food group…there will be prizes for individuals and families with the best costumes. All participants will receive a medal commemorating this great event. Those interested should email todd_moore@dpsk12.org with the names of those interested in participating, as well as a number to reach to collect payment. TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
This week we hear from Andy Osborn from our 4/5 literacy team.
Q. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Boulder County. I spent my Elementary years in Lyons, CO and my high school years in Longmont, CO.
Q. How or why did you choose teaching?
I picked teaching because I wanted to give back to my local community. I spent years in the private sector and I never felt important. Teaching makes me feel important.
Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would go to the Serengeti National Park in Africa.
Q. What book/author has influenced you most?
A book that inspires me is Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court. There are so many important life lessons that can be learned by reading John Wooden.
Q. What is one job you had before coming to Cory?
My first job was as a baggage carrier for the University of Colorado. I was 15 years old and spent a couple hours a day with my best friend carrying luggage to the dorm rooms for people who were in town for summer conferences.
Q. What is your favorite dessert?
My favorite dessert is pineapple upside down cake.
