Principal Update
WOW! We have had an eventful (literally) week at Cory! Between the CSC Fall Forum to last nights’ Science Night, we had over 250 people come through our building to learn more about their child’s education…what a great community we have! There are more opportunities for community building coming up this week, starting with our annual Fall Clean-Up on Sunday (information below), Book Fair and the Annual Thanksgiving Lunch. We look forward to seeing you! Remember to “like” our Facebook page, where we have all of the social media coverage of our events (and other announcements). https://www.facebook.com/coryelementary
If you missed the CSC Fall Forum (covering a variety of topics, including EngageNY Math), you can catch up soon. We will have the documents and video up on our website within the next week or so and I will send out an email blast with the direct link.
Today, the Colorado State Board of Education is expected to release the first state-level results of the new PARCC exams in English language arts and math. Because we are holding our students to higher expectations to ensure they are truly prepared for college and career, these results may appear to be lower than previous results on CSAP and TCAP. However, please note PARCC results are not comparable to either CSAP or TCAP. PARCC results for districts and schools are expected to be released to the public Dec. 11. DPS communications is working with us to provide tips on how to discuss these results with our teachers and communities. More to come in the weeks ahead.
In partnership,
Jennifer Harris, Principal

Teacher Spotlight
This week we chatted with Kara Fuchs, our new 1st grade teacher.
Q: Why did you choose this profession?
A: I knew that I had wanted to be a teacher when I was in 3rd grade. My teacher had made a huge impact on me and I wanted to do what he did. I also remember playing “teacher” with my little sister when we were younger. When I went to college I was a business major for the first three years and I hated it. I knew that I wanted to do something that made me happy every day and I knew that becoming a teacher would do just that!
Q: What is one of the highlights of your day at Cory?
A: One of the highlights of my day is just seeing my students in the morning. I love the conversations that we have with one another. When I see that they are learning and growing as people it makes me so happy and it makes me know that I made the right choice when I decided to pursue teaching. Being at Cory has been such an amazing experience and I am so happy to be here as a 1st grade teacher!
Q: If you found yourself stranded on a desert island, what ONE treat would you crave?
A: I love chocolate but I couldn’t live without Mexican food!
