For the third consecutive year Cory elementary was picked to participate in the Janus Funds Student Art Buying Program. Three 5th graders, Emily H., Haley R. and Ivy S. had the honor to represent Cory at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival this past summer as ARTrepreneurs! and were given a grant from Janus Funds of $500.00 to purchase art for permanent installation at our wonderful school.
For the 14th year, Janus, a global investment management company based in Denver, has supported this exceptional community of artists at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and brought in students through this one-of-a-kind experiential art education program.
Emily, Haley and Ivy got to participate in a hands on art buying experience at the world renowned Cherry Creek Arts Festival. They got to practice valuable skills such as teamwork, negotiation, art appreciation, art-buying, public speaking, and more.
The girls decided to concentrate on sculpture artists because in previous years students from Cory had purchased paintings for the school. With research done beforehand they narrowed their list down to ten artists to visit while at the festival. They ended buying three different pieces from three different artists. Much thought was given to keeping a similar color scheme with all three pieces and they also had a vision of one or more of the pieces being displayed in the computer lab because they thought it could use some “color.” The girls hope that the students, teachers, staff and parents at Cory will enjoy these pieces as a permanent addition to Cory’s art collection.
Please visit Cory’s Facebook page to see pictures of the three pieces and then be on the lookout for them as they find a permanent home at Cory.
