MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi Cory Families,

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful long weekend.  Please remember that there is no school on Monday and Tuesday next week.  We will see students back on Wednesday.

A few reminders:

  • Mask Mandate Update for DPS: Please refer to this email from Dr. Marrero, our new Superintendent about the update to mask mandates.
  • Health and Safety Updates:
    • The decision tree was updated to reflect the new guidance from CDPHE regarding negative COVID tests.
  • Individual Spring pictures are on Feb. 24th.  Please check out the website to make an order. https://bloomschoolpictures.com/cory

Hi! This is Emilio Eslan, the principal for the day.

I wanted to share my experience leading Cory today.  I was able to support the safety drills today, and our students did a great job at following all the procedures.  I helped with recording announcements for next week and organized students to support in that.  I also had to look at the CMAS schedule to determine if our schedule was efficient for testing in April.  We also did many observations, and I am impressed with the amazing  work our students and staff do everyday! Thanks!

Have a wonderful weekend! We will see everyone back on Wednesday!

  • March 22: Dine out at Campus Lounge

I hope you have enjoyed the beginning of the New Year and your families remain healthy. We are looking for new volunteers to add to our chicken volunteer list.

Student grades 1st – 5th, need to be accompanied by a trained volunteer to care for the chickens.

We are hoping to get more parents, grandparents, or other old siblings involved in our program to get each grade level into the coup daily, Monday – Friday (maximum 3 students per class).

What is involved in becoming a volunteer?

  • Short volunteer training done by one of our long-time volunteers
  • Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes in length
  • Volunteer duties – supervisor students as they:
    • Feed chickens
    • Provide fresh water
    • Collect eggs
    • Turn Hemp

If you are interested, please contact Skeeter Buck – skeeterbuck@gmail.com or text 415-845-5447.

Please make sure to check out the lost and found area. It is overflowing with coats, mittens, water bottles and other miscellaneous items!

Discovery Link News

Enrichment Pre-Registration Information

In an effort to better support the families of DPS we have created this Pre-Registration Information sheet to help prepare families for registering for Spring Session Enrichment classes which run from April 5th, 2022- May 27th, 2022

General Information For All Families

  • Registration for Winter Session Classes will open on March 9th at 8am and run through March 23rd at 5pm.
  • Brochures for class offerings will begin to be sent out by February 28th.
  • There will be no late registration permitted. Once registration is closed regardless of space availability, registration will remain closed.
  • If during the session we have to cancel a class we will add 20-30 minutes to the last two classes of the session. If we have to cancel more than one class we will communicate to families next steps. Please note that like Discovery Link we are not obligated to refund for cancellations.
  • Please note that any registrations that have incomplete guardian contact information will be automatically rejected. This is to ensure in cases of emergency we have correct contact information.

ELCS Scholarship Policy

Each Community Partner offering classes has a class specific scholarship policy  for their programming that we hold them accountable to, and Extended Learning and Community Schools will award the scholarships for each class based on these policies (i.e. one class may offer 1 full scholarship for every 10 paid enrollments). ELCS policy will be to prioritize students enrolled in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program and/or students who are receiving support or services through DPS’ Homeless Education Network (HEN). Students who have already received scholarships this year will be placed on a waitlist for scholarships for this session so that more students can have access to programming.

For families that would like to explore this option please contact our Enrichment Systems Specialist at randall_geary@dpsk12.net

Refund/Credit Policy

  • In order to receive a full refund you must request to cancel your registration for class by 5pm on March 28th, 2022.
  • In order to receive a partial refund (refund minus first class and service fees associated with the class) you must request to cancel your registration by 5pm on April 7th, 2022.
  • You may request to cancel your enrollment after April 7th, but no refund will be awarded.

Discovery Link Families: Please note your request will be processed as a credit to your account for future use.

In Canada in 2007 a group of  12 grade students saw a 9th grader who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school.

They knew they had to be upstanders because bullying is never ok.

They decided to buy a bunch of pink shirts and hand them out to other students to wear.

By the end of that week, most of the students in the school were wearing pink shirts to show support for the Grade 9 student who was bullied.

Now it Cory’s to turn to show that bullying is never ok

Wear your pink shirt on February 23rd !
