Dear Families,
We hope you have a wonderful break and are able to enjoy all of the joys that come with the holiday. We are truly grateful for your support, flexibility and love over the past few months. We know the transition back to remote will bring obstacles and challenges but please know we will continue to be here to problem solve, brainstorm and support as best we can. Thank you for everything!
Our school staff are working hard to make sure all students have access to remote learning supplies. Please keep an eye on communication from your child’s teacher. Teachers will share classroom remote learning schedules and other information as soon as it is available. As we move into remote learning after break, we will not be able to support remote learning centers at Cory at this time. We will prioritize support staff to support students with engagement and social emotional needs.
Earlier this week I met with my supervisor and other district support partners to discuss Cory’s academic data. I was informed that our data is exceeding in the district. This is due to the incredible effort of our staff to ensure that even during these uncertain times all of our students are learning and growing. I couldn’t be more proud of our amazing team and families who are partnering with us.
The teachers are strategically using student work and engagement data to drive lesson planning and small groups. I am very proud of the intentionality behind each opportunity students are presented with. Students are grabbing ahold of every opportunity to lead discussions, to lead break out rooms, and share their thinking. The safe virtual cultures are allowing students to take risks and own their learning. I am so proud of our community of learners! Today is the FINAL DAY of the Friends of Cory Campaign! EVERY gift of EVERY size makes a difference in our children’s experience at Cory. If you have not yet given, please click here to make your gift today.
Earlier this week, we shared a video of students speaking about what they value most at Cory and one of Principal Weiser discussing the impact of the Friends of Cory. We are so thankful for your time, commitment to our students, and financial support that help set Cory apart.
This year Cory Book Fair will be a virtual event, held November 16-29. All book orders will be delivered and you will not have to pay shipping costs on orders over $25. As usual, a portion of the proceeds go to Cory and will be used to purchase birthday books, fill classroom libraries, purchase STEM products for the classrooms, and supplement our teachers classroom needs throughout the year.
Every year during the book fair the student council or other groups within the school hold a gently used book drive for underprivileged schools within DPS. This year, since most classes aren’t in person and due to restrictions due to Covid-19, with needs within our own Cory community, a $50 Scholastic gift card will be given to families in need to help fill their home libraries. Each sale made during the fair will go towards the purchase of gift cards for 32 Cory families. We are committed to maintaining confidentiality and preserving family dignity as we facilitate this community-giving project.

As COVID-19 conditions change in Denver, we are adjusting our programming to prioritize the health and safety of our students and families.DPS announced the difficult decision to shift all K-12 grades and programs to remote learning, beginning on Monday, Nov. 30 through the winter break. ECE families will receive supports for at-home instruction, but we will not be offering full remote learning for ECE students. This means that Discovery Link will not offer before and afterschool programs and shift to offering Remote Learning Support Centers for elementary school students. Registration opens today, November 19th at 6pm.
Please click here to register for Remote Learning Support Centers, which will be available at 30 locations for families who need support from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m with a capacity of 30 students per site. The majority of locations will cost $16 per day, with 8 grant-funded locations being provided free to families who attend those schools. Spots at Remote Learning Support Centers are limited, and available on a first come, first-served basis.
Families should remove days from their calendars and accounts will be credited for before and afterschool fees through Dec. 18. If you have questions, please contact discovery_link@dpsk12.org.
