MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday Cory Community!

I hope everyone enjoys the warmer weather and fun outdoor plans this weekend!

I would like to highlight the 4th grade math team this week.  Each week, the team plans for high quality tasks that engage students in problem solving, evaluating efficiency of strategies, focus on thinking strategies, and using math language to explain their rationale. The classroom cultures in each room promote risk taking so students feel curious and openly make mistakes to improve their math muscles. I am continually impressed by students application and precise explanations.  A team of teachers from another DPS school observed yesterday because of the high level of student ownership to promote agency and empowerment.

In hopes to be proactive, I wanted to share ways that we as a community can be prepared for an outbreak of the flu or Coronavirus.  By sharing this information, I hope that we start a dialogue around ways we can protect our students and families if an outbreak does occur.  The CDE website has updated information and videos to support education and deter miscommunication about the virus.  Please let me know what questions and concerns you may have or what steps the Cory staff are taking to mitigate the spread of sickness.  We appreciate your partnership

What you need to know:
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a type of virus that causes diseases of varying severities, ranging from the common cold to more serious respiratory disease.

How is it spread?

  • Through coughing and sneezing
  • Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
  • Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands
  • Because Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is new, we are learning more each day about the transmission patterns and incubation periods.

What are the symptoms?

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Severe Illness

What can I do?

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
  • Help your young students to wash their hands well
  • Do not drop off your sick child at school
  • Stay home when you’re sick
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing
  • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms

It is always good to be prepared for any situation to keep yourself and family safe and healthy.  It is prudent to have have extra supplies and medications at hand, and instilling proper hand washing is important.  If you need more support or information, please feel free to call the health office.

Best,

MESSAGE FROM THE CAFETERIA

My  name is Claire Chamblee. I am the lunch room manager. I wanted to take the time to let you know that our Papa John’s pizza day is changing. Starting next week, March 4th, we will now be having pizza on Wednesday’s. We are changing our pizza day to lessen that vast amount of pizza that goes to DPS schools every Friday.
I also wanted to add a few little tidbits. DPS lunch costs $2.45. Lunch includes an entrée, (optional) milk, unlimited salad bar. A milk by itself (for a child who brought a lunch from home or wants an extra milk) is .50 cents. An entrée by itself is $1.85.  If you do not want your child to have seconds, want to put a limit on what they eat, or just have any questions or concerns feel free to come in or reach out to me by email or phone. Hope you all have a safe relaxing weekend.
