Don’t forget to look at the Cory Parent Calendar (to the right) for all important events.

Principal News

I am pleased to announce that we will be partnering with Penny Harvest to raise awareness around philanthropic giving.  As a result of this partnership, students will be the “drivers” in regards to which organization we give money to as well as have the opportunity to hear from specific organizations about the importance of giving.  What it looks like for our school is different than in years past in regards to having several fundraisers for charity a year and our Student Council will be heading up this effort.    More to come soon!  For now, please read Penny Harvest Flyer for additional details on this exciting partnership.

  • School Directory Update:  Are you looking for a way to volunteer from home?  Well do I have the opportunity for you!  We are in need of someone to head up the organization of the School Directory.  If you are interested, please email me (jennifer_harris@dpsk12.org).  Thank you!  Once we get someone to help organize this, we can start collecting information from our community and get the directory distributed as soon as possible.
  • Safety Update:  As many of you may have noticed, Denver Police are out and about supporting schools in their quest to keep students safe.  When crossing at Florida and Steele, please take a “pause” before you step into the street.  Drivers have the right of way if they are in an intersection turning on a yellow and even have the right to turn on a red if they are already in the intersection.  This “pause” before stepping into the street will allow for cars to clear the intersection and help pedestrians cross safely.

Box Tops!

Don’t forget about box tops!
Cory raises money each year from the collection of box tops. Each teacher will have a bag in their room used for collection of the tops. If you have any to share with us, please send them into school and be sure to write the teachers name on the bag so that your room gets credit for the tops! Watch your Friday folders for more information.

Cory’s Garden Committee will be holding a Farmers Market Thursday, September 10th, at 3:15pm!  We will have our stand outside by the Cory playground.  Please pick up your kids and stop by for fresh produce from our garden. All money raised will benefit the beautiful Cory Garden.

Janus Student Art Buying Program

For the third consecutive year Cory elementary was picked to participate in the Janus Funds Student Art Buying Program.  Read here about how three of our 5th graders, represented Cory at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival this past summer as ARTrepreneurs! and were given a grant from Janus Funds of $500.00 to purchase art for permanent installation at our wonderful school.

Cory Carnival

MARK YOUR CALENDARS -Sunday, September 27th, 12:00-3:00pm

The 2015 Cory Carnival is just about two weeks away and we are excited about what should be another fun, community event!

We are in the midst of planning and still need more assistance to make the carnival a success!  Here are some WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

Volunteers: We couldn’t have this event without our great parent volunteers.  There are two ways you can help – choose one or sign up for both!  The first sign-up sheet is for volunteer shifts – please use this link to sign up.  The second volunteer sheet is for donated items – please use this link to sign up to bring something.  Do you have a former Cory Elementary student who wants to help with the carnival?  Please use the volunteer shift sign up link if your former student wants to help, we have a number of volunteer opportunities.  Tell them to invite their friends – we will give them all a free lunch and ask they only work in 1.5 hour shifts.  We also need coolers and shade tents for the day of so let us know if you have one to lend!

Food donations: We are looking for cupcakes and cookies for the cake walk and we would also love any donations for lunch served that day (along with serving pizza, we plan to grill hot dogs and would love any donations to help with that, as well as chips and/or drinks) (see the donated item sign up sheet).  As in the past, we will also need some help with the actual grilling (including borrowing some grills).

Cash donations: Always a big help!  There will be a drop box in the office.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this great event. Look for the ticket order form in this Friday’s folder.

Please email Christina Imamura or Michelle Hoskins at corycarnival@gmail.com with how you would like to get involved!
