Cory Caregivers,

Thank you to all the families, PTA members, and volunteers who made the Cory Carnival such a wonderful experience! We’re especially grateful to the families who supported the Hot Dog stand and farmers market. Your generosity benefits all students at Cory. Thank you for making the day so special!

We’re asking for your support in talking with your child about using our restrooms respectfully. Staff have seen vandalism in the boys’ bathrooms, including soap dispensers being pulled down, batteries being broken or taken, and urinals being clogged with rocks, sticks, or toys. This damage can mean a restroom must close while we wait for repairs, making it harder for students to access the facilities they need. The district has seen an increase in vandalism in boy’s restrooms this year due to a Tik Tok challenge.  Please help reinforce the expectations at home.

At school, we’re reworking our restroom check-in and check-out process. The process will create a time stamp, which can help staff review camera footage when needed to understand who was in the area and what may have happened. We appreciate your partnership as we work to keep our restrooms safe, clean, and available for everyone.

Ways to Talk About It at Home

  • Start with a question: “What helps everyone feel comfortable and safe in a school restroom?” or “What would you do if you noticed something was broken?”

  • Talk about shared spaces: Explain that school restrooms belong to the whole community. Taking care of them helps everyone use them.

  • Discuss what belongs in the toilet or urinal: Only bodily waste and toilet paper should go in. Rocks, sticks, and toys can cause clogs and damage.

  • Practice what to do: If your child sees someone damaging something or notices a problem, they should leave the area and tell a trusted adult—such as a teacher, school staff member, or caregiver. They should not try to fix it themselves.

  • Offer reassurance: Let your child know they can always tell a trusted adult if they are worried, have made a mistake, or need help. Adults are there to listen and help keep everyone safe.

Thank you for partnering with us and helping Cory remain a welcoming place for every student.

School Picture Galleries Are LIVE!

School picture galleries are now available! Families can view their student’s pictures and place orders through Bloom School Pictures. View your student’s pictures and place your order here: https://thebloombeehive.com/cory

If you want a retake, please sign your student up through your school's parent dashboard where the galleries are. Any students that were absent, or do not have photos, have already been added to our list.

Having Trouble Accessing Your Gallery?

Sometimes your browser can hold onto old gallery or access-code information, especially when the same access code (such as a student ID number) has been used before.

Before contacting Bloom, try opening your gallery in a Private or Incognito window. This often bypasses old cached information and gets you right in.  If that doesn’t work, try a different browser or refresh and enter the access code again. Still stuck?  Reach out to the Bloom School Pictures team and they can help! Visit Bloom's FAQ page to contact them.

Come along on our Cory TSEAL journey!

Safe from the Start Program - Winter 2027

Dear Family:

After Winter Break, a trained Prevention Specialist from the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center will begin

teaching the Denver Safe from the Start curriculum in your child’s classroom. This 6-week program

teaches children skills that will help keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations.

This program is divided into 6 Lessons:

1. Ways to Stay Safe: General safety- looking both ways before crossing the street, asking before

petting a dog, never touching a gun etc. Identifying 5 trusted adults in their lives. Children will

learn to recognize, refuse and report.

2. Always Ask Permission First: Always ask the person in charge before going somewhere, doing

something, or accepting something.

3. Safe, Unsafe, and Unwanted Touches: Safe touches make us feel loved and cared for. Unsafe

touches hurt our bodies. Unwanted touches can be safe but something a child may not want

now. Kids are learning they have the right to say, “no”.

4. The Private Body Part Rule: A bigger person should never touch your private body part except

to keep you healthy. Children identify the exceptions to this rule (caregivers, nurses, doctors).

We teach that the private body parts are covered by a child’s bathing suit.

5. Never Keep a Secret: Never keep a secret especially if the private body part rule is broken. In

this lesson, kids will also learn that it is never their fault if someone else breaks the touching rule

and to keep telling if their safe adult does not believe them.

6. Internet Safety: DCAC is an Educational Partner with the National Center for Missing and

Exploited Children (NCMEC). We utilize NCMEC’s NetSmartz to talk about internet safety to

1st-5th grade students.

Selected classes, 1st-5th will complete a pre and post-test. These tests will be verbally conducted by

the trained prevention specialist. There will be no identifying information, and tests will be shredded

after being scored. The reason for these tests is to collect data that illustrates an improvement in scores

from pre to post test.

If you would like to opt your child out of this programming, please complete this form by December 1, 2026.

If you have questions about the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, or the Denver Safe from the Start

curriculum, please do not hesitate to call us.

Sincerely,
