ELA Resource Teacher

University of Northwestern, St. Paul

I grew up in Waterloo, Iowa in a family of educators. One of my best childhood friends was a refugee from Vietnam, and as a result I grew to love learning languages and learning about other cultures. I eventually pursued a degree in teaching English as a Second Language with a minor in Spanish. I have taught ESL to a diverse group of students from all around the world in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Missouri, and I think it’s the best job ever. After taking a 15 year break to stay home to raise my children, I returned to the classroom to teach ESL in DPS at Samuels Elementary two years ago. I love learning together and working with families to help our English Language Learners reach their academic goals. I am especially excited to join the Cory Cougar community as I started out as a Kittrell Cougar in my little elementary school in Iowa! In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, travel, hike, cook, read, and drink coffee.
