MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Cory Community,

Thank you to the families who attend the GT information night.  A huge thank you to Ms. Eagleston who created the informational evening.

I want to share that our first priority is the health and safety of all students and staff in regards to heat days.  There is a process to support schools without AC to determine if the temperatures are too high and will impact learning.   The decision is based on temperatures taken throughout the day and reported to the district. Based on this data, an early release is granted or denied.

Many of our surrounding schools were closed due to heat as well.  The Cory staff began monitoring weather and air quality conditions on Tuesday.  As soon as we learned about the increased temperature and poor air quality which would impact students outside time and leaving windows open, we were concerned about providing effective learning conditions.  As soon as we were notified that a heat day was going to be granted, we let parents know and will continue to do our best to provide as much notice as possible.  However, to improve my communication with families, I will inform families when we are monitoring weather conditions and air quality in the future to give families a better notice that a heat day may be considered.

As we move forward as a district, we will continue to work to limit days and activities student miss, always keeping in mind the safety of all.  Please feel free to reach out to the board and district in how to help support Cory and clean cool air.

Best,

Joan Wieser
