MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome Back Cory Families!

Wow! It sure has been an interesting Spring! It has been strange not spending the last 3 weeks with the Cory students and community. I hope everyone is staying healthy and supporting each other through this difficult and unprecedented time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, patience and understanding as we have worked through closing down schools in an effort to decrease the spread of this COVID-19. Please know that I and the Cory staff are thinking about you and your children every day…We are hoping you are healthy!  Please continue to take care of yourselves, your family and your neighbors!

Final Tech Pick-Up! Please come to the main parking lot at Cory Monday, April 6 between 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM to pick up a device.

  • In order to support social distancing and the health of all involved, the plan for picking up computers will be as follows:
    • Parents will drive up in the main parking lot, please follow signage to the first station to check-out and receive a technology waiver
    • Parents/family members will remain in their car.
    • A Cory staff member will ask you for the student name and their teacher’s name.
    • The staff member will bring the computer and charger to your car window.

On April 7, we will begin on-line or remote learning until the end of the school year. This is new to teachers and students, however, we will continue to grow together and to succeed. At Cory, teachers will continue with the curriculum and lessons that had been occurring in the classroom. We will work hard to stay connected through email, Google Classroom, Class Dojo, and phone calls to support the students we care about both academically and socially. Each teacher will send out communication welcoming your child to the virtual classroom.

Each grade level teacher, special teacher, and specialist (speech, GT, ELD, Special Education, Reading and Math Intervention) will all have a google classroom. Within each google classroom, you will find:

  • Suggested Daily schedule
  • Posted lessons and assignments
  • Daily attendance exit tickets – Assignments must be completed by 4:00 for attendance.
  • Student/Teacher conference time- daily
  • Supplemental work

Week 1 of online learning will be a slow start to ensure that students has access to the content, technology, and learning platform. Students will have access to online lessons, assignments, and tasks, but the priority is to ensure all students can access the platform and has working technology.  At the end of Week 1, I will send out a survey to gather feedback about online learning so we can determine next steps as we will finish out the school year online. Week 2 till the end of the year, students can expect an increase in expectations as we all become more conformable with the new format.

I will send communication on Monday around specifics for April 7.  This will include 2 parent information sessions to support families with the transition to online learning and tech support numbers if you continue to struggle with technology.  Thank you for your continued support and engagement! Please keep safe and healthy during this very difficult, and sometimes lonely, time. We appreciate your patience, feedback and support while we navigate this together.

Best,

Joan Wieser
Principal
