PARENT POST – October 13, 2017

Dear Cory Community,
This Thursday the Denver Public Schools released the School Performance Ratings or SPF results. The SPF is like a report card for schools, telling us important information about how much our students have improved their scores on state tests from year to year, and how satisfied our students and families are with our school. We are then able to use this information to make any necessary changes and to bring in additional supports where needed. This year Cory received the highest rating– as a blue, Distinguished, school. Cory is in the top four performing schools in the city. Congratulations to the staff, students, parents and community who make Cory such a special place of excellence!

There are three major areas the SPF examines are:
Student progress over time (how much students are growing year to year): Cory was rated Exceeding
Student performance (are students performing at grade level): Cory was rated Exceeding
Family Engagement (how satisfied are students and families with our school): Cory was rated Meeting

This year, the SPF also focuses on how well we serve and challenge all of our students, especially students of color, students in poverty, English language learners and students with disabilities. You’ll see a new Academic Gaps rating on the report, which will help our school target areas for improvement that can help every student reach his or her full potential.  We will be digging into our SPF further at the next CSC meeting.

We look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence here at Cory this year as we challenge ourselves to be the best for our students every single day. Thank you for all that you do to support our community- we could not do it without you!

Friends of Cory Annual Giving Campaign 2017-18

71 families have donated to date for a total is $25,879.14.
We are making progress, but still have a ways to go!

Our goal is to raise $65,000 with 100% student family participation, which contributes a huge chunk toward the $550 per student that the PTA funds.

Cory needs us! If we do not reach our goal of $65,000, that means we cannot fund paraprofessionals and full time schedules for the specials teachers next year. Don’t delay! With the campaign ending October 27th, time is running out.

Participate today on the Cory website or drop off a check payable to “Cory PTA” in the Cory office.

Wish you could help a teacher and not sure how?

Please SIGN UP to bring a salad or soup or dinner dish or fruit or dessert or drinks to our amazing teachers during parent teacher conferences on Thursday, October 19th and Thursday, October 26th.  We need many hands to pull this off!  The sign up items are really just a suggestion.   Please feel free bring whatever you are able!    Please note that we need a few people to help set up as well.
THANK YOU – Teacher Appreciation Team

Silicon STEM Academy

I’m reaching out from Silicon STEM Academy, nearby at Colorado & Yale. We offer after-school STEM enrichment and summer camps for area kids and we are offering Fall Break Camps for area kids on Oct. 26 & 27. I’d like to see if you’d be willing to distribute our electronic-flyer (attached) to your families? We work with several other SE Denver Schools, including Merrill, Hamilton, U Park & Bradley, and we’d love to share our STEM programs with your students, too. (We have several Cory families who love our camps and classes.) Please let me know if I can answer any questions!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first event this year at Grillin’ Wings. We made $250 for Cory! Our next event is Monday, October 23, 5 – 9 pm at The Kitchen Next Door, 658 S. Colorado Blvd. in the City Set center. This is one of our most popular events and Next Door is generously giving 50% of dine in sales back to Cory! Click here for more information and to register (optional). Don’t forget to tell your server you are with Cory!

Hello Enrichment Families

Our Fall session is in full swing, the colors are changing, and the temperature is dropping fast. Winter is right around the corner and that means it is time to start spreading the word about our next batch of awesome afterschool classes!  Winter classes will start on Monday, November 27th and go for 10 weeks through Friday, February 16th. With classes continuing through Winter Break, hopefully it will be easy for students to pick back up right where they left off in December. Fall session was our biggest session yet, and in the interest of finalizing everyone’s schedules before we go on Thanksgiving Break, we have decided to move registration forward a week. That means Registration for our Winter Enrichment Session will open Monday, October 23rd  at 9:00 a.m. and will run until Wednesday, November 8th at 9:00 p.m. You should already have received a flyer outlining the schedule for Winter. Our line-up is mostly the same in order to accommodate families that want to stick with their favorite class, but we also have a number of different classes available each day for those that would like to switch things up. Our outdoor classes like Skateboarding and Parkour will not resume until Spring. If our offerings don’t quite fit what you’re looking for, please feel free to reach out with suggestions and I will do what I can to find a class that fits your needs for Spring. Lastly, I made an editing mistake on the flyers you received; KidStage will be doing The Wizard of Oz for our Winter Session, NOT repeating Hercules. My apologies for the confusion. An updated Brochure with class descriptions and dates will be available on your school’s website on Monday.

Thank you for your support of Cory & C3 Enrichments.

Please submit your Box Tops by October 25th.
