Parent Post – January 29, 2018

Posted February 18, 2018

Hello Cory Community,

This month has been a busy one as we work to finalize our school budget and begin setting dates and timelines for the Principal Selection Process. With our increased enrollment this year, we are able to continue funding our school with minimal impact on programming or support staff. In fact, we are currently looking at the possibility of adding a math specialist who would spend half of their time working on math intervention support and half of their time working to support our math compacting program. This additional position will allow us to continue our work around strengthening our math program, with additional support for both students who are struggling in some areas of math concept development, as well as extending and accelerating for students who are exceeding grade level standards consistently.

In terms of the Principal Selection Process, please hold the February 15th date for our candidate community forum. The committee will be conducting interviews on February 8th.  The district is also open to looking at different transition plans to support a new leader at Cory. These plans could include the possibility of working with me, in a mentoring capacity, in the coming year. I will keep you posted as the process unfolds.

Another important upcoming date is Friday, February 2nd.  This is a teacher planning day and there is no school for students. Our staff will be engaged in planning work in both math and literacy. Our first grade team and I will also be spending part of the morning at SKEE as we work to build a bridge and start the work of some instructional alignment between the SKEE kinder classrooms and Cory.

Lastly, the following week, please  save the date for ART NIGHT. On February 6th from 5:30-7:30. Families are invited to come together to create a variety of crafts that will be donated to different non-profit organizations. We hope to see you all there!

Have a wonderful and restful weekend.

Best,

We have a strong team of 23 amazing girls representing Cory for Girls on the Run this fall season.
The girls are learning important life skills and training to run a 5k.
We are hosting a practice 5K here at Cory on Monday, October 30th from 4-5p.
The girls will be running the perimeter of Cory-Merrill, around the John Paul ll Center and finishing on the playground behind Cory.
We would love to see friends and parents cheering on the girls encouraging them along the way.
We hope you will join us to hold up a sign, speak some encouraging words, cheer loudly, honk a horn, and show some support for these girls as they prepare to run The Great Candy Run November 12th at Wash Park.
Registration opens on Feb. 5th and the season runs from March 5th – May14th. We will be running in the Girls on the run 5k on May 13th at Cherry Creek high school.
We will have the same 4 parent coaches as last season:  Pam Wandry, Deanne Deeg, Katie Martin and Amber Billig. Our practices will continue
to be held after school on the north field by the Cory garden on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:30-5pm. We will have to limit our Cory team this season to 20 girls. The first 20 girls to register on the Girls on the Run website will be added to the team.
Thank you,
Amber Billig
