Parent Post – December 1, 2017

Posted December 1, 2017

Dear Cory Parents,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! It is hard to believe that winter break is right around the corner. Things at school are busy as we finish out the year. Teachers are continuing our books studies, our backwards planning process, digging into our units and looking for opportunities where we can build in inquiry based learning opportunities, community expeditions and overall deepen our focus and learning goals.

Students are also gearing up for the Winter Concert and Art Walk presented by our 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. This event will be held on December 14th starting at 5:00 p.m.. The concert will begin at 6:00 at Merrill.

In other school work, our School Leadership Team has begun revising the school mission and vision statements to further name and define our direction, based on all of the surveys and feedback from last year, the principles guiding the work we are doing this year, our integrated magnet status vision and the steps we are taking to realize it. These drafts will go to the staff and CSC for further revision and then to the community at large when completed.

In other school news, Please remember the deadline for the School Leader Hiring Community Input Form and the applications for the School Principal Search Advisory Committee is December 11th to the main office. Your input is important and we need your feedback! What traits and experience do you want the next Cory leader to have?  What do you feel Cory needs as leadership qualities to take the school into its next evolution? Please have your voice heard in this very important process.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Elizabeth TenCate

WE NEED YOUR VOICE IN THE PRINCIPAL SELECTION HIRING PROCESS

The second opportunity to become involved in the Principal Selection Process is to apply to be on School Principal Search Advisory Committee (SPSAC). This committee will be creating the interview questions specific to Cory, aligned to the traits identified in the community feedback, and conducting the interviews with selected candidates. This committee will be meeting in early January and will require a significant time commitment after school. This commitment is outlined in the application attached here. Applications to serve on the SPSAC are also due by December 11th to the Cory main office.  The committee should represent a diverse set of parents (grade level, student needs, time at the school etc.).  School Principal Search Advisory Committee Rules and ResponsibilitiesApplication to serve on the School Principal Search Advisory Committee

News from the Library!!

I have been busy doing a thorough library inventory this year.  While scanning every book on the shelf, I have spent time weeding our collection as well.  Many books were withdrawn due to their age, condition, and being duplicates.  Some of them are still very worthwhile and may love a new home!  A table will be set up after school on Monday, December 4th  and Tuesday, December 5th for your browsing pleasure.  Feel free to take any books you would like and add them to your home libraries!
