A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPALDear Cory Families,Thank you to all the families who came out to Parent Teacher Conferences.  We appreciate the opportunity to celebrate and set actionable goals with families.  Thank you for partnering with us.

I have been reading about school cultures and ways to build cultures that last. A culture really refers to the way we do things. At Cory, we have a collaborative school culture. We all work closely together to do what is best for all children. When I say “we”, I do mean the collective “we” and not just school staff. Our parents and families do so much to help enrich our students  experiences.

Our staff members also support each other at their weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) times. At these times, staff members engage in job-embedded learning as part of their routine work practices. Our goal is always to have our students learn at high levels and for that to occur, staff members must be continually learning. The structure of our school is the collaborative team. Our educators do not work in isolation. Together we are engaged in raising the bar while focusing on the interests and needs of our students. Engagement is always key!

We appreciate our very generous community.  Without the support of our amazing community, we would not be able to fund our instructional and social/emotional priorities.  Please donate to Friends of Cory today to support service learning, projects, and meaningful experiences that challenges students to design better.  Thank you so much for your continued support.

Have a wonderful long weekend with your families.

Joan Wieser

FRIENDS OF CORY

We are 2 weeks into our 5 week Friends of Cory Campaign, if you haven’t had a chance, please donate now!

  • To date we have raised $12,543 from 42 families. Our goal is $65,000 and 100% family participation.
  • Click here ( hyperlink to http://cory.dpsk12.org/supportcory/annual-giving/ ) to donate online or you can download the donation form to pay by check (PDF donation form hyperlink).
  • Friends and Family: Grandparents love to support too! Forward this link: http://cory.dpsk12.org/supportcory/annual-giving/ to have them donate to help keep Cory the top educational school that it is!
  • Please remember, most companies also do a company match for donations. That’s a great way to double your donation for the school to see a larger benefit.

The PTA’s annual giving campaign, Friends of Cory, is underway! This year, our goal is to raise $65,000 with 100% family participation. Our request is simply that you give as generously as you can between September 17 through October 18th.
Friends of Cory provides critical support to the school, including:

  • Paraprofessional educators in each classroom
  • Full-time Art, P.E. & Music teachers
  • Enrichment experiences such as field trips, the school garden, learning nights and community events
  • Classroom technology upgrades and learning tools

Friends of Cory operates with no overhead, so every dollar donated goes directly into programs that support all Cory students. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible.

LIBRARY/TECHNOLOGY UPDATES

Please join us on Tuesday, October 9th at 6:30 in Cory’s auditorium for an important hour long parent presentation about Raising Media Smart Kids: Tips on Managing Family Media Use & Internet Safety!
You will learn tips on raising media smart kids, including managing family media use, choosing appropriate media, filtering home internet, limiting exposure on social media, and using safe district homework sites.  These are all extremely important topics!  I am currently teaching 4th graders all about digital citizenship.  We are covering topics such as media balance, private vs. personal information sharing on the internet, cyberbullying, and our digital footprints.  Fifth graders are busy reviewing these topics as well.  This parent presentation will be a great tie in with our library curriculum.

Help needed!  We are in need of 30 new mouse pads in the computer lab.  Please let me know if you are able (or your company is able) to donate any mouse pads to our lab:  dawn_miller@dpsk12.org.
Thank you!

DESTINATION IMAGINATION
Destination Imagination is Starting Again!!
Hey parents!  We are looking for parent volunteers to be managers of Destination Imagination teams at Cory.  Teams often meet before or after school up until the district and/or STATE competition in the spring.  Managers provide a place and time for teams of 7-8 children so that the students can solved creativity problems together in order to present solutions at the competitions.  It is great fun for children and a really good activity for creative minds.  Parents really only supervise the children and get materials for them if they can.  The students do all the work! Cory has had a really successful program over the years and have sent many teams to STATE and GLOBAL Championships.  If you are finding meaningful ways to be involved with your child’s education, this is really a fantastic program.  Please contact Rainy Laventure (rainy_laventure@dpsk12.org) or Grace Hopley (grace_hopley@dpsk12.org) for further information.  We need team managers!
