Spirit Week is May 24-27th!

As if May wasn’t jam packed already! Get ready for SPIRIT WEEK – our annual tradition when kids can choose to come to school dressed a bit crazy.  Here is the lineup for this year:

Monday May 23 = crazy hair day
Tuesday May 24 = opposite day (be creative: shirt backwards/inside out)
Wednesday May 25 = dress like favorite character from a book/movie
Thursday May 26 = Teachers dress down, Students dress up
Friday May 27 = wait for it…. Dress like Mr Conklin day

Thank you STUDENT COUNCIL for organizing this fun event!

Calling all Cory Families

Help us Stuff the teacher lounge with treats 1 more time on Tuesday May 24th!

The end of the year is nearly here and such a busy time for our teachers.  Cory Cougars let’s show our teachers how much we love and appreciate them one more time. Please bring your favorite treats to “stuff” the teacher lounge on Tuesday May 24th.  Treats might include: bag of chips, package of candy bars, bag of candy, chocolate bars, cookies, box of k-cups (we have a keurig one of our families donated), nuts, frozen dinners, box of microwave popcorn, six pack of sodas, waters, sparkling waters, granola bars or any other treat you can dream up.

Kiddos should bring their treat to the table by the couches before school.  They may also write a note.  Note cards will be available before school.

Come on Cory Cougars let’s show our LOVE!

Destination Imagination fundraisers

The Destination Imagination teams head to Tennessee next Tuesday but before they go they have two final fundraisers on Friday, May 20th.  This Friday is “Five Buck Friday” – $5.00 will get you two fundraisers!  In the morning before school get your hair painted “Cory Cougar” purple for $1.00.  Look for the Destination Imagination team members either in front of school or back on the playground.  After school on the playground your remaining $4.00 will get you a Nothing Bundt Cakes Bundtlets; flavors are Chocolate Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Raspberry and Red Velvet.  The Destination Imagination teams are so grateful for the Cory community support and look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Wanted: Cory Fine Arts Coordinator!

Has your child ever come home talking about how much fun they had on a school field trip to see a play at the Mizel Theater or hear the Colorado Symphony play downtown? Or how wonderful a Marimba concert was that they were able to clap along with during an all school performance?

We need a parent volunteer to continue the tradition Cory has long held of providing enrichment opportunities for all of the students. The PTA generously provides an annual fine arts budget, and the coordinator is responsible for selecting the program for the year as well as scheduling the chosen professional groups to perform for the Cory student body. Typically, there are 5-6 performances each year.

In 2014-15, the schedule included: A field trip for the 4th and 5th graders to hear the Colorado Symphony downtown; a field trip for the 2nd and 3rd graders to see the Chihuly glass exhibit at the Botanic Gardens; the Buntport Theater performed a play at Merrill for the entire school; the first grade took a field trip to the Mizel theater to see Androcles and the Lion; the dance company Wonderbound performed for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders; and Opera Colorado performed ‘Hansel & Gretel’ for the entire school at Merrill.

The 2015-15 line up was: A field trip for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to hear the Colorado Symphony downtown; a field trip for the 1st and 2nd graders to the Mizel Theater to see ‘Art Dog’; an all school jazz performance by a professional ensemble ‘The Gift of Jazz’; an all school performance by a Marimba/Mbira family ensemble called ‘Chihera’ from Zimbabwe; online streaming made available to the Cory classrooms of Colorado Ballet performing ‘Alice in Wonderland’, and there will be an all school performance by the Hannah Kahn Dance Ensemble on May 27th.

There is a well organized fine arts binder with all of the past performances and contact information needed to schedule field trips or shows at Cory. The current fine arts coordinator, Sarah Graham, will also give a tutorial to the new volunteer and will answer any questions you may have.

Please keep the fine arts alive at Cory!

Interested parents can contact Sarah Graham at sgrahams@comcast.net

  3. We need help for the 5th grade walk/picnic/swim on June 2nd to Wash Park.  This event will be as memorable as WE collectively make it.  We welcome any idea you have to make time at the park fun.  We still need help driving STUFF to/from park, some male volunteers for the swimming event at the rec center, some water balloons, popsicles, etc.

Reminder: Edukits for next year!

Cory Elementary offers the EduKit program as a convenient option for busy families to order school supply kits for the 2016/2017 year. EduKits are custom made for our school and contain what students need to start the year off right. Order by August 3 for the BEST pricing and FREE shipping. A confirmation will be emailed to you after your order has been placed. Your child’s EduKit will be in the classroom on the first day of school.
