PARENT POST – 2/22/19

February 22, 2019

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Cory families,

Happy Friday Cory families.  We are beginning to get back into our routines and enjoying every moment with our students.  I want to thank all the families who came out to support Art Night.  It was such a wonderful evening working as a community to make change.  I appreciate how our community models and reflects our values and mission.  Thank you for partnering with us to improve outcomes for all students.

As a culminating component of the 5th grade unit on social change and making a difference in the world, students will be raising money during their wax museum presentations to support vulnerable kids around the world, in order to overcome poverty. We will be using the funds raised to purchase goats and chickens in order to provide a steady supply of protein to feed children and help struggling families in developing nations.  Students from all grade levels will visit the 5th grade wax museum, so please send them in with loose change. Each student presenter will have a container for donations, and each donation will “activate” the presentation.  All Cory parents are also invited to attend and donate loose change at this amazing informational event, which will be held on Friday, March 1 from 2:15 – 3:15 pm in the upstairs hallway/classrooms.  We are also looking for donations of Clorox containers or any plastic containers that students could use as a donation catcher.  We are looking forward to this fun and rewarding experience.

Spring state testing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will begin in mid-March and continue through late April.  We appreciate each family’s commitment to getting students to school on time during this period and each student’s commitment to doing their very best.  The full testing schedule is on the attached “Cory 2019 Spring State Assessment Calendar (Families).pdf”.  Questions can be shared with your student’s classroom teachers or myself.

Thank you for your commitment to our students and school,

Joan Wieser, Principal
