PARENT POST 1/18/19

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday! We had another fantastic week of learning.  Students were deeply engaged in rigorous mathematics, intriguing literacy topics and engaging science and social studies activities.  We appreciate students bringing their curiosity and passion into each lesson.  I also appreciate teachers digging into curriculum to find authentic ways to build in real world application and literature connections.

The PEBC (Public Education & Business Coalition) was at Cory on Tuesday to support math teachers in planning for math workshop.  Each grade level had a different focused during their plan time but walked away with tools to support planning juicy tasks, student discourse, and developing essential questions.  Our work with the PEBC has been instrumental in changing outcomes for all students. Thursday morning, many principals in DPS joined us at Cory to observe math instruction.  Principals were blown away by the instruction, rigor of task and student discourse/explanation.  Students were engaging with real world application, evaluating peers and using math language to explain their claim.  I want to send a huge thank you to our 3rd grade team for hosting the principals and allowing us to learn from them.

Next week, teachers will be sending home current iReady math and literacy growth scores.  Please be on the look out for these documents in your child’s Friday folder next week.  There are so many celebrations in the data! Take a moment and celebrate your child’s hard work and perseverance.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Joan Wieser

CORY AUCTION
We’re excited that we can already announce the date and location for the 2019 Cory Elementary Auction! Stay tuned for this year’s theme…

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 12…at the same amazing venue as last year…DU’s Cable Center.

With the auction only a little over 3-months away we are still VERY much in need of new families to help participate in planning this amazing event. We are hoping for an even greater parent involvement and attendance than last year. Even offering to help a couple of hours a week will make our committee even more successful.
If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity please reach out to either Leisa lsollenberger@gmail.com or Danielle daniellegumina@yahoo.com.
