PARENT POST – 11/16/18

November 16, 2018

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday! Thank you to all the families who joined us for Thanksgiving Lunch.  We enjoyed the opportunity to serve our amazing community.  I hope that you have fun and exciting plans for the holiday break. Please take time to enjoy friends and family.

I want to encourage all families to attend Cory’s first literacy night.  You will find answers to how Cory teachers are responding to scientific research to refine their practice to better meet the needs of all the students they teach. You will walk away with an understanding of Words Their Way homework assignments with your child.  You will also learn about the curriculum and what children are doing to grow their literacy skills.  Our primary and intervention/SpEd teachers are excited about the OG training they just finished.  Teachers walked away with a deeper understanding of a variety of tools to support students with phonemic and phonological awareness. Our hope is that student data drives instructional moves and not programing.  We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

We appreciate the support of our community.  We had many amazing opportunities this week at Cory that wouldn’t have happened without the support of the community.  We appreciate the families who set-up for Thanksgiving lunch.  The table settings were beautiful and welcoming.  The Book Fair was a huge success. Thank you to all the families who volunteered to ensure a successful event. I would like to give a special thanks to the individuals who spearheaded the Book Fair.  Thank you to Milli Wolfson, Susie Moutray, Erin Robbins and Dana Schoonover!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The 2018 Scholastic Book Fair is nearly a wrap! Books will be packed away and shipped out this morning but our online fair will run through November 25. Items will ship free to the school and be delivered the first week of December. Just as with the physical fair, 50% of proceeds will go back to the school!

http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/entrance.aspx?FID=3858999&direct=Y

As of now, we have raised $18,100, $9,000 of which will go directly to Cory. That equates to about 2,332 hours of reading. Funds raised will go to teacher’s classroom libraries, birthday books, Scholastic News subscriptions, replacement books in the library (fines are no longer collected) along with more maker space products.

This couldn’t be done without the help of all of our volunteers and for that we’re greatly appreciative! This year alone, we have had had volunteers put in a tireless 270 hours.

Thanks especially to my co-chairs, Susie Moutray, Erin Robbins and Dana Schoonover!
