REMINDER: FALL BREAK BEGINS TOMORROW. SEE YOU ON WEDNESDAY, 10/23!
I want to thank all the families who came out for Parent Teacher Conferences. We appreciate the opportunity to share the wonderful progress students have been making! I hope everyone has wonderful fall break filled with joy. Teachers will be back to work on Tuesday to focus on planning our next units! Students are back on Wednesday, October 23rd.
In the fall of each school year all schools in Colorado receive CMAS data and schools in DPS are “graded” with a report called the School Performance Framework (SPF) based on data from the two previous years. At Cory, we give assessments throughout the year to measure student growth including: running records, Dibels, iReady reading/math & early literacy, written assignments and module assessments which we use to make informed decisions. We also rely on the daily work of students to assess the needs of our students and ensure quality instruction for all students. We are very proud of the achievement of Cory’s students and would like to share this information with you.
Colorado Measures of Academic Success
On the English Language Assessment (Reading), 86.6% of Cory’s 3rd-5th grade students scored in the “Met or Above Expectations” category, an increase of 3.2% from 2018.
On the Mathematics Assessment, 83.36% of Cory’s 3rd-5th grade students scored in the “Met or Above Expectations” category, an increase of 3.3% from 2018.
Additionally, 5th grade students took the science CMAS with 78.8% of 5th grade students scoring in the “Met or Exceeds Expectations” category an increase of 14.9%. 4th grade students took the social studies CMAS with 60.3% of 4th grade students scoring in the “Met or Exceeds Expectations’ category.
The Colorado Department of Education also provides schools with Median Growth Percentile data. The Median Growth Percentile is a rating for 4th and 5th grade students which compares each student’s growth on CMAS to students that scored like them the prior year, with a score of 50 being the median score and a score of 40-60 being moderate growth and over 60 being high growth.
Cory’s MGP for 2018 was:
DPS creates their own ‘report card’ on schools, also called the School Performance Framework (SPF) which includes two years of data and is based primarily on CMAS MGP data, but also includes CMAS status, Early Literacy growth, Early Literacy status and engagement data (attendance, student satisfaction and parent satisfaction). Cory’s overall SPF rating was Exceeds Expectations.
In addition to our intentional focus on achievement, school culture, student and parent engagement are keys to our success at Cory. We believe that all students at Cory need to enjoy learning, participate in rigorous learning and engage in collaborative learning opportunities. We value all of our families and recognize that “it takes a village to raise a child.” We also value collaborative decision making between the school and the parent community and want to formally invite parents to attend our CSC meetings and PTA meetings. We encourage parents to volunteer in classrooms, participate in community events and join us for student celebrations of learning. Lastly, please check the Cory website for updated information and share ideas with us through email or face-to-face visits. Thank you for partnering with us.
Enjoy the break!

DESTINATION IMAGINATION – CALLING ALL 1ST AND 2ND GRADERS!!!
Destination Imagination has a fun program just for you.
It’s called Rising Stars.
With Destination Imagination, kids work on a team to create things and solve a team challenge. The challenge is noncompetitive, which helps ease pressure and lets kids play and experiment with their solutions. However, there is a showcase option, which allows teams to perform their solutions at a tournament.
Right now we have one first grader interested and one parent who would like a co-coach. We need more kids and at least one more adult. If you’re interested, please email Ms. Annie at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also get lots more information at www.destinationimagination.org. There is training and support for coaches.
Please say yes!!!
