I bring a diverse set of experiences and background to the role of school leader. Most recently I served as the Principal of Swigert International School. For the last six years I worked as the Curriculum Designer and then as the Principal of Swigert leading it through its design and development of an IB, inquiry based model, the IB authorization, innovation planning and renewal and our tremendous growth to accommodate the changing neighborhood in Stapleton. I loved the opportunity to create a school from the very beginning- it was an amazing experience! I made the decision to step down from Swigert to search for a little more balance in my school-home life as well as to pursue new opportunities to challenge and grow myself as a leader and educator.
Before coming to Swigert, I served as the Principal of Fairmont, an International School, in the Baker neighborhood. During my time at Fairmont we doubled our proficiency rates and developed a strategic plan to transition the school from a dual language model to an international school.
I have ten years administrative experience in the Denver Public Schools as well as several years teaching middle school at the Denver School of the Arts and the elementary school level. I have also worked in museum education as the Educational Director for the Women of the West Museum and as a consultant for the Rosa Parks Museum.
Two of my most transformative experiences, that led me to pursue education as a career, came from working closely with DePauw University and the Peace Corps in both Ecuador and Guatemala on public education and health initiatives. I have also studied in Spain and returned to live and work there for a time. I speak Spanish fluently.
I am passionate about education and developing high quality programs for students that ignite their love of learning and spark their intellectual curiosity.
I live in Denver with my husband Rob, our 10-year old twins Charlie and Olivia, our 12-year old son Jack, an enormous Bernese Mountain Dog named Indy and our new kitten Ike. I love to read, ski, hike, travel, paddleboard and be near the water. In our free time we spend time at a cabin in Grand Lake enjoying the lakes and Rocky Mountain National Park.
I look forward to a wonderful year getting to know the staff, children and families at Cory and supporting the school through a time of transition.
A little more about my educational outlook:
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been part of the Innovation Network for the past six years. This has allowed me as a leader, with the staff, to operate with significant creativity and think outside the box. Our autonomy allowed us to pursue new avenues of thinking and learning. This experience has pushed my thinking on instruction, professional development and curriculum. I believe in putting students at the forefront of all we do, innovative practices, working smarter not harder, aligning all initiatives to a clear vision and mission, creating a climate an culture that challenges us, grows us, and brings out our very best selves for our students and our professional community. I believe the power of creativity and innovation, strong, clear and focused systems and structures to drive the work at schools. I can’t wait to work with you and this amazing community. I have heard such wonderful things about you all!
